Trail ran about 25 miles. That puts me over 80 miles for the month, which is a lot of mileage for me. Nine of those miles were looking for the car keys I lost on the trail, then running to the park the following day (because I didn't have a car) to pick them up after someone turned them in.
On that run, I tripped on a root. For approximately 5 feet, I flew like Superman. Then I landed hard on more roots and rocks, tumbled over, and landed in a patch of poison ivy. My knee was bleeding, I had debris lodged in my left forearm, and my right thumb was semi-immobile with a sharp pain where it met the wrist. After looking around to make sure no one saw the mishap, I continued running. I made it to the main park road, the blood from my knee injury ran all the way down into my sock. I knew that it was mostly due to sweat, but I thought it looked cool anyway. As I was running beside the road, a mini-van full of girls started hollering “RICO!!!” (my nickname). I immediately thought the injury was worse than originally assessed… I must have hit my head. Then I recognized the girls as my friend Jason’s sisters-in-law. They said they were going to a (wedding) rehearsal dinner at one of the park buildings, and that I should come. So, sweaty, bloody, and dirty I continued running to the building, and drank beer (to ice my poor thumb, of course) instead of going to the hospital to determine if my thumb was broken.
The following morning, while trying to define the range-of-motion in my thumb, I heard a loud “POP”. The angle of my thumb changed, and it hurt no more. The knee: minor, wide scrape… just enough to take the skin off, but not kill the nerves. No sign of poison ivy yet.
Weight remained constant.
Starting a new gym (YMCA) this week. The weather has been so good for so long, I haven't stepped foot inside a gym since March or April.

Week of 27 Sept. Ran 2X 6 miles, Walked with 20 pound weighted vest 1X 6 miles. 2X 1 hour weight sessions in the gym.
Still sticking to meatless lunches and eating only chicken and fish for meat. I think I got used to the chicken and fish meat diet. In Oct. will be celebrating wifes b-day, looking forward to eating a steak. Of course that depends on the results of my Oct wellness exam.

Over the last 8 days I have done 4 training sessions(chest/back/legs&shoulders/chest). This morning after the workout I rode my bike 40 miles the first time I have left directly after a workout in a while. Then, this evening I walked 7 miles.

Didn't do much this past week. One trip to the gym for an upper-body workout, one short run, one short hike with the kids yesterday. However, on Saturday, I spent 1.5 hours clearing brush to my tree stand, and I'm only halfway done. THAT is an old-school butt-whoopin workout. It normally takes me about 10 minutes to clear the entire trail, but the woods are like Vietnam this year. I've never seen anything close to this much undergrowth. I actually lost my trail a few times. I hate wild rose.

I've been focused on biking, with another Century this Saturday. The last few weeks have ridden 120-140 miles, with rides of 67, 78, and 63 miles on the Saturdays. I've managed to hang on and swim once or twice a week, except the one when they were doing the annual maintenance and the pool was closed. I continue to fight with weight gain, which is frustrating me, given the level of my workouts and the fact that my diet hasn't changed.

I got in, for the week of 4 Oct., only one weight workt of 1.5 hours. I did manage to do 3 runs of 6 miles each. This week hockey season started and I blew any diet on the 5 pints of beer and massive load of sugar covered wings. My wife sent me the following to remind me to get back on my diet: My wife has been put on a low FODMAP diet. I am glad to be doing the low FODMAP during our nonbackpacking season. Except for a few dishes I do most of the cooking. It has been a challenge to cook foods in ways that I am interested in eating and that she can eat. After 6 weeks we can begin to add in eliminated food items to see which ones cause her to become ill. I hope these weeks pass quickly.

For the last week, I have trained four days(back/legs/chest/shoulders&arms)and done three 5-7 mile walks.I think I was pushing to the edge of over-training because the last day or two while resting(granted in the a/c)my feet and hands would start to get chilled and I could feel a slight fever start to come on.So I cut back on milk and bananas(two of my comfort foods)which tend to encourage mucus buildup and increased immune boosting foods such as eggs, greek yogurt, muscadine grapes, teas, apple cider, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, and various spices/herbs such as mustards, freshly ground peppercorns, oregano, thyme, etc. When it actually starts to get cold I will then add hot and spicy foods/spices such as hot peppers ,curry or tumeric. Bottom line,I took one day off where I did two walks and then was able to train again early this morning...

For the week of 11 Oct. I got in one good 11 mile on trail run. I was hoping to get in more running this past week but the local forest fire made a mess of the air quality. I had not done the Versa Climber in a while and, with my wifes suggestion, got in 2 sessions of 1 hour each. I, also, did a 1.5 hour weight session. Still sticking with the meatless lunches. This low FODMAP diet my wife is on is the worst. I bear with it as the low FODMAP is seeming to be helping er out.

Last week,7 days through the 19th,I rode my bike 3 times for 179 miles ,did two weight training sessions(chest/back) and did several 3-7 mile walks.I basically skipped training legs/shoulders/arms but with the cycling I did not feel like a leg workout and I get some cable work for arms and shoulders in my other workouts.

For the week of 18 Oct. I was able to get in one 5 mile run, 1 hour on the Versa Climber and 1 hour on the Cablecross machine. My wife and I are heading out to do some car camping and spend time at the Gold Fork Hot Springs.

I've been staying relatively active. Typically a couple trail runs and 3 gym workouts per week. I started taking an Intro to Yoga class a few weeks ago. The class averages about 25-30 people, with only one or no other men, and all the women are tiny. My 5'8" 190-lb frame is like that of a giant. I am literally heads above everyone else in the room!

I did three weight training sessions(chest/back/chest)and two or three 5-6 mile walks.I think I need to shake things up as my workouts have gotten too predictable lately as has my bike and walking routes.I didn't get through the full body training this week and haven't been sleeping/recovering very well.I may try antagonistic supersets with some new exercizes but won't really form a definite plan until I get in the gym to keep my body guessing as to what I am going to do...
