Most of the week was recovery from last Sunday's run. My quads were not pleased with me. I did get out for a 4-5 mile trail run yesterday, and my legs feel fine.

I definitely need to get back into my workouts!! i typically workout 5-6 days a week, intense cardio mixed with a steady weight program. I think the coming of winter is telling my body to hibernate though, I have worked out 3 days in the last 2 weeks. My eating has not been much better. I have a 4 day hike coming up in 3 weeks, 10-15 miles each day. I need to kick my butt into gear again. I think its time for some Insanity Max30!!

For this week (30Aug), I got in 1 hour on the Versa Climber, 2 hours with weights, and 13 miles out jogging. I am feeling good and recovered from the ONP - Coast backpack.

Jogged 20 miles, despite the oppressive heat. 8 trail miles yesterday, which is the furthest I've run this year. Heat really suppressed my appetite. Yet, between being active and eating less, I gained 2 pounds. Only I can defy physics in such a way.
Really neat thing is that I'm now able to run with my 9-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son... she running beside and he on his bike. She's a natural runner... skinny, long legs... just did 3 miles at 10:00 pace with me.

I went to the fitness center one morning last week last week for the first time in over two months. My bulk is down from not lifting weights specific to building up those muscle groups, but surprisingly I was able to easily lift at about 75% of my limit. More surprisingly, I lost 15 pounds this summer without going to the gym or doing much recreational exercise. I have been drinking an above average amount of beer this summer also. At 167 pounds I was a little overweight, but I dropped to 152 and it's been about 30 years since I was that skinny. Shows me that hard work and stress can do more for weight loss than gym workouts. The wife and I have been putting in long days moving (and stressing over it). I wish I had time to spend at the fitness center, or ride my bike or hike with my llamas, maybe later this month. On the other hand, I get to watch osprey fish out of my swimming pond.

Since I have been weight training pretty frequently and intense the last month or so and looking at my last post I had been on a 4 days on schedule,I backed off and have only done 3 workouts over the last 10 days. All of this is instinctive as I go by how I feel rather than a set schedule.I did walk 7-8 miles everyday whether weight training or not but would still consider the non-weight training days as rest days.I am just maintaining my aerobic fitness so that when the humidity drops I can ramp up longer walks/bike rides along with weight training of course. My garage gym felt like a dungeon in Hades and I noticed the real feel is still 110 here today but that just adds an extra thermogenic effect...

I did not get much in for the week of 6 Sept. I did 1 hour in the gym, ran 3 miles, walked 5 miles with a 20 pound weighted vest, and then was hit with a 100 degree temp for a few days. Whew! I expect to do more walking with the weighted vest this week and several in the gym weight sessions.

Ran 18 miles... all but 3 on trails.
I hope to start going to the gym at lunch now. And this is the last week before the 5k that my daughter and I will be running. We've been limited to 1-2 mile runs for the past 1.5 weeks. But she's had a lot of soccer practice, so at least she's been running... just not distance. Hopefully a 3-miler today, then a couple 2's... then let her rest for a couple days before the race.

This week I swam twice, and biked 118 miles. About 66 1/2 of that was on Saturday, so on Sunday I did some housework and didn't go near my bike

I did a 3 off 4 on weight schedule this week(Fri-Thurs) and am back to a 4 way split versus 3 the last few months. So with the 3 off I had only done 3 workouts the prior two weeks so was revitalized to train 4 straight days. You really have to get plenty of rest and proper nutrition to recover with this kind of schedule though.I did continue to walk 7 or so miles most days.

For the week of 13 Aug, I was able to do 3X 6 mile hikes with the 20 pound vest, 2X 1 hour weight sessions in the gym, and a 7 mile round trip day hike with 983 feet of gain/loss.

Work, work, work, work, work... I put in far too many hours at work this week. Thankfully, I was able to get out with daughter for a couple runs this week. Then this past Saturday was the 5k race. SHE CRUSHED IT!!! She strung together her best three 1k splits back-to-back-to-back... for a 28:59 time (9:20 overall pace). She finished 3rd out of 15 in her age group (< 13 YO), behind an 11-year-old and another 9-year-old. And she was right on the other 9-year-old's heels until the last 0.1 mile (the other girl took off and my daughter couldn't accelerate). Not bad for a 9-year-old with 3 weeks of half-assed training (due to schedules, not effort).

That's great, WWBF!
I did an all-biking week (well, plus some weight work), for a total of about 145 miles. The pool at the Y was closed for the annual cleaning, so I just rode every day. I think I rather overdid it, because I was slow and tired on the long ride Saturday, though I picked up quite a bit after lunch.

Since in my last post I had trained 4 straight days, over the next 5 days I rode my bike a total of 116 miles on 2 days and rested 3 days.Over the last 4 days I have trained 3 days(hitting the entire body in the process)and walked 7 miles.
