I'm heading home from San Diego tomorrow, but I've been reading all week about the flooding in Louisiana. People are being evacuated, houses and schools and such are filling with water, and fish are even swimming on the sidewalks. (Photo below not mine.)

Louisiana is like 2 1/2" above sea level at its highest point. A overflowing toilet floods the state.

That's terrible news, but I love the picture.
My friend, who had to bail out of a trip to the Wind River Range as Hurricance Katrina approached, is expecting his place on the river to flood.

I heard about this a day or two ago when an in-law's house got flooded. I'd take a Wyoming blizzard over that any day. Stay safe.

BateauxDriver and his wife own property on a river that is expected to crest at about 13 feet above flood stage. Mark's slab is at 10 feet above flood stage. His lower level is mostly storage, and his adult son's bedroom. They seem to be well prepared for this, and are presently turning down offers of help. We'll see if they need anything after the waters recede.

Yeah, I have friends down there. Hope all is well with everyone, but truth but told, it's not unusual in some years, especially after the Army Corps of Engineers built all those dams and levees. To an extent they serve their purpose (routing water around Karla's house), but when they overflow the levees/dams or the current gets too swift, well, we reap what we sow.
Again, I hope that you and all of my other friends down there come through it OK.

New Orleans is always sinking. Some serious things down there folks need to come to terms with. Stay safe young lady.

My house is not at risk, but Bateaux is already in the water. He went through the big flood of 2001, and I know he is well-prepared. They have a room here if they need it -- dog included. But tonight, they're hot tubbing at home with similarly flooded neighbors and celebrating Mrs Bateaux's successful half-marathon earlier today.
If you ever wonder why we all have boats, now you know.

It's not *quite* like a hurricane party, but close.

New Orleans is always sinking. Thankfully, there's no flooding in New Orleans with this series of storms. It's the northern part of the state and the part of the part of the state east of Baton Rouge and north of New Orleans -- all areas above sea level. Just too much rain in too short a time.

I read of some flooding over your (cajun's) way as well. What's happening from say, Lafayette to your place? I hear about flooding but can't find any good info.
