I'm in Knoxville. Are you thinking of moving, or just surveying?

likewise, in knoxville.....
the area has really changed it's outlook about the outdoors the last few years......
lots of opportunities have popped up in the immediate area (like mountain biking trails) and of course, the mountains are just a short drive away.....

The oakwood lincoln park area is close to where i live. Its ok, but there are a few things that have placed a low ceiling on what it can become as a neighborhood. I think you might like the south knoxville waterfront area. South knoxville has the "urban wilderness" and easily accessible flat water paddling.

Lived there for a summer in college and liked it a lot. That means a bunch coming from a FL Gator! We lived in an old mid century house up the hill from the medical center, and about 20 minutes from the airport. This was 12 years ago so my memory is hazy (for a lot of reasons, it was college afterall!)
We were able to go boating and enjoyed 4th of July fireworks from the barge in the middle of the river. We also took many day trips to the GSMNP. I was impressed by worlds fair park and the antique district for shopping etc. A friend from college's family owns Architectural Antics if you want to some fun restored furniture

Beware UT fans. Say anything nice about 'Bama and you will be drawn and quartered!

Definitely check out the Fourth & Gill neighborhood near downtown Knoxville. A lot of the outdoor crowd has moved to that area. If you like local brews, we have several breweries either in the neighborhood or close by.

I'm a non-believer in terms of religion Expect about 3-4 churches at every intersection. More in Maryville and other suburbs.
