Camera progression over this past decade:
1- Nikon FM100 (film) 2- Canon Rebel XT (my first DSLR, basically to learn the quirks of digital photography on) 3- Canon 5D (my first really nice DSLR) 4- Canon 5D Mark-III (I dropped my 5D in a stream, so was forced to upgrade)

Do you shoot JPEG or RAW?

Exclusively RAW now, but it was JPEG when I initially switched to using a DSLR (the Canon Rebel XT).

My point-n-shoot will do raw. I just don't know what to do with it. LOL

Load it into the supplied photo editing software (or better) and process it with your favorite settings/styles/what-have-you.
Card space permitting, I may start using the RAW+JPEG setting as I'm not currently keen on spending too much time in post-processing. But I'm thinking the benefits of RAW may be worth it in certain circumstances.

Think of RAW as the digital equivalent of a film negative. If you are going to play around with the exposure - by which I mean the more sophisticated contrast adjustment techniques such as levels/curves and the ilk - or white-balance fixes then you need to use RAW, because such fixes can lead to issues with JPEG (such as banding). Also, you can always go back to the original state of the photo with RAW, which you can't with JPEG (once you've saved your adjusted image); i.e. "undo" will not work. Other simpler fixes like straightening, cropping, sensor dust spot clean-up is ok to do with JPEG.

Interesting. Thanks! Through work I can get photoshop or lightroom at a very discounted rate. Maybe it's time I start experimenting with one or the other.
