Or, to put it in less dramatic fashion, I have retired. June 9th was my last Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, from which I took my forum name. At 59, I am youngish, but my wife has returned to full-time employment, and with our son starting high school in the fall, I feel I need to devote my attention to family. I also have an aging mother, who is requiring more and more time and attention. Plus, leading a church through political division and pandemic has taken a toll on me. I am leaving a church and a calling that I love, but feel confident this was the right decision. Because of my wife's work schedule and the fact that my son is on summer vacation, opportunities for extended backpacking trips may have to wait a while, but I'm confident they will come eventually. Hopefully you'll see an increase in trip reports from me in the not too distant future. See you on the trail!

Awesome sauce, and welcome to the club! You can sit in the back pew now.

You can sit in the back pew now. And heckle the preacher!

Trinity, everything you've written here has been enjoyed by me. I would have been honored, blessed to have heard your sermons. Vaya con Dios, as always.

Sounds like you make you made the right choice and motive, family! I hope your congregation recognized your exit.

Congrats!
I’d say just sneak out one day, maybe tell them you’re getting a pack of smokes. Then disappear in the Wind River Range for a week and say you were held hostage by me.

What a shock! I thought maybe the forums were the "building." We don't want that! But congratulations, trinity. May you have the best that life can offer! But please, no more snake bites!

Congratulations! I hope retirement as much of a mental relief for you as it has been for me.

Congratulations trinity! I'm looking forward to "leaving the building" at the end of this year, and plan to hike as much as my old body (circa 1957) permits.
