And yes Virginia, there will be pork in my pack. Years ago at a local minor league baseball game there was a Spam truck at the entrance. Maybe it was Spam day or something - the minor leagues are full of wacky fun stuff like that. Anyway, they had a variety of samples available. One of them, some sort of spicy version, tasted pretty good. I wouldn't want to live off of it, but when on the trail tasty calories are highly desirable, and can make a tough day much more tolerable.
I've sliced up some sort of salami/pepperoni/whatever in my McCann's instant oatmeal and added the South American version of Tabasco (yes, it was in a grocery store!) when I got sufficiently bored of healthy but blander meals. I only did this with the plain McCann's, and saved the apple and other flavored packets of McCann's for other days. McCann's is one of my staples both at home and on the trail. At home I eat the "real" steel cut whole oats, which is a slow cook, with blueberries or similar. Plus the cans are cool and sometimes useful. On the trail anything goes, and I'm all in for the instant packets. Bustelo coffee is another one, but any instant coffee will do. Oatmeal and dark coffee can be a healthy but explosive combination, even without the Tabasco. Jes sayin'.

I slow cook whole oat groats for breakfast. (No pork around here, though - sorry - I'm vegetarian.)

Bustelo coffee is another one, but any instant coffee will do. First try Waka instant. Next a little coffee with your pork?
