So I'm still a working guy who has limited annual leave but this year was a better year for me. I got 4 different hikes in with a total of 15 nights on the trail.
I'd be interested to hear how others faired even if you're retired or independently wealthy and got a ton more in than me. I'd just be a little jealous. But I feel blessed with my 15 nights.

Still working, just 4 nights on the trail and another 5 car camping with day hikes. Also a weeklong vacation with Mrs Driftwoody to western North Carolina. Nice rental house, hike every day.

This was a slow year for me. Thanks a couple of weeklong trail crews, I spent about 15 nights on the trail, but that doesn't count the more than two weeks hiking the Camino Primitivo in Spain.

Terrible year for me…! I only hike 2x a week these days. Fortunately, I get a 30-minute walk most nights at work on my break. I’m hoping 2024 is a much, much better year…

(Starts counting on fingers...) 18 on the trail. A whole bunch more on the ground near the car (roughly... 23 or 24?).
Trail nights were from 4 trips. Would've been 2 or 3 more if I hadn't busted my foot back in April...

Trail nights? Zero. Bag nights about 20. Some were kayak camping and some were car camping. This year has been tough on me for bp'ing, but I am hoping to do better next year. Can't let this become the norm just because I am now in my 70s. (72, to be exact) Even short trails are better than none.

Only two one night trips so far this year. One overnight in January, another in early March. Then it got too hot combined with some other factors. I'm hoping to get a few nights before the end of the year.

I realize that most us of here probably are still working but honestly I thought I'd be the one on the low side of things. However, I don't have kids so that's probably a contributing factor. However, I must admit that 15 nights is a high number for me.

However, I must admit that 15 nights is a high number for me. I’m a little surprised, too, but not totally: when we were still working, our usual was one 5-6 night trip with maybe a couple of overnights. If we were in SF all summer (as opposed to Boulder, where we spent a lot of summers for quite a while) those weekend outings were harder to get in, since it was a longer drive to the mountains. So I see how that can work. I’m hoping for more trail nights next year, with more 1-3 night trips in there. We shall see.

This has been probably my worst year in quite a while, mostly due to family stuff. I think my total trail nights might be 2. I bailed on a trip in January because of a leaky sleeping pad. I got in at least a couple more nights car camping. I'm hoping to get out and do some camping and/or backpacking next week.

I’m a little surprised, too, but not totally: I guess I just assumed that everyone had/has more time off than me. I'd be out even more but I like being married.

One of the really amazing things about our marriage was that Dave and I both thought that a long (camping) road trip with some backpacking in the middle was the best possible vacation. I feel like very few couples manage to match up those desires.
