I noticed REI mailed me two 20% off coupons (one in-store, one online) for their Gear Up Get Out Sale going on now until 11/20. I might get a pair of Kuhl pants; or, perhaps a flannel/fleece shirt. What about you? What are you thinking of getting?
Happy Trails,
DR

I haven't yet been able to come up with anything I even remotely need. Which is kind of depressing.

Which is kind of depressing. That is kinda where I'm at. However, I do need to replace my PLB but I'm still hoping to find it over the winter.

I bought a Smartwool thermal quarter zip baselayer for 25% off, and from REI Outlet I applied 20% off to an already discounted Mountain Hardwear polartec quarter zip fleece.

Iirc REI routinely excludes electronics from their sales. There might be some interesting developments along the beacon area. Garmin just rolled out a solar powered etrex and their updated 67i also has a huge boost in battery life so the overall area might be about to get improved: though the FCC certified PLB could need time for approval of any such radical improvements.

I do need to replace my PLB but I'm still hoping to find it over the winter. I just learned of this product. Sounds promising, and way more economical than what is currently available. If I hadn't recently purchased an Inreach Mini 2, I'd be looking into this.

Last year I bought that Nitecore headlamp, and I do not like the headband. Fully expanded it's a bit tight on my head, and fuggittabout wearing it over a beanie. Also, I tend to wear my headlamp sleeping on my back in the hammock, but the cinch box at the rear of the headband makes that too uncomfortable.
I bought this updated model with the notion of using its predecessor (minus headband) as a backup for longer trips, should the primary run down to zero charge (these don't use replaceable batteries). Unfortunately neither headband can go on the other model.
Other than that, I really like these Nitecore headlanps.

driftwoody , I also have the older model NU25, with the DIY shockcord headband mod. It is a fantastic headlamp, so I'm really sorry the update has been getting negative reviews, in spite of the USB-c charger. I'm gonna stick with my old one, which still works great.

I'm thinking about a modified elastic headband with velcro that can be used for both, to facilite my original plan.

If REI had the non-goretex Salomom Alphacross 5 I'd buy a pair. I wore Speedcross for years, then switched to their Sensemantra or something and don't like them as much.

Nice video. Makes this device look promising. There are some caveats. The big one being since it communicates with just one geosynchronous satellite it is possible to have an issue on a north slope and maybe not be able to "see" the satellite. If you have a new iPhone this isn't an issue. It uses the low earth orbit system where the sats are always moving. It can be the backup in that case. Another shortcoming is that without your phone you can only send a check in message (usually good) or an SOS. I would check to see that the SOS goes through without a phone. From what the video said an SOS involves a questionnaire on the phone app about the incident to get started.

If I hadn't recently purchased an Inreach Mini 2, I'd be looking into this. I much appreciate this heads-up on this. My ACR ResQlink is close to $400 to replace and this is $150 and I can text with decent pricing on subscription plans (which is why I never went with a spotx, inreach etc...) I don't need the bread crumb feature nor the navigation as my phone does all of that anyway. My question here would be about battery banks. I have a 10k mah battery bank that has been enough in the past. However, on my last two hikes it was nearly dead by the time I got to my car. Does anyone have recommendations for 20k mah batter bank?
