It has been raining much of the night. I am glad I have a house.

Not horribly cold, but the rain gauge is at 1”. Yesterday it was empty.

Weather is boring, unless catastrophic.

The best thing about mornings on the East Coast (and also late afternoons) is that the sun peers from under the layers of overcast that persist from mid-October to mid-May.

Driftwoodies are boring, unless catastrophic! On the contrary, the revelation that I have one or more doppelgangers is not only exciting but potentially catastrophic!

Weather is endlessly fascinating, if you look closely. At least, it is in places where it’s not always the same.

Weather is endlessly fascinating, if you look closely. At least, it is in places where it’s not always the same. That was the major thing that bugged me about San Diego. On the coast at least the year was mind numbing in its lack of change. The summer and winter daily highs barely differed by ten degrees f iirc. Of course that’s a bit of a cheat for San Diego at large where the official weather is recorded from the airport (hangover from the old propeller air mail days?) and Lindbergh Field effectively has water buffering its temperatures on three sides being close to the coast with San Diego Bay to the south, Mission Bay to the north and the Pacific to the west. Inland even a modest distance and the temperatures take much bigger seasonal swings. Though otherwise it’s still pretty unchanging.

The last two years here on the east coast have been mild snow-wise. I think with global warming putting more moisture in the air and El Nino we might be in for some big snow. Sleeping Bag Man! wait and see how people react down there when there is snow. I was in DC once when they got eight inches. They acted like it was the apocalypse.

Yeah they do the same thing in Portland and Seattle. Totally ape***t bananas! I had a good long run in Bend...10 years...where people didn't lose their minds in the snow. Sigh. Of course we had tourons, though...but they were easy to spot & evade.

Ha ha, MD/NoVa is the worst for driving in snow. Everyone I've ever known has said that people here are horrible drivers in the snow. Curiously, however, I've never heard any of them say, "Yeah, I'm one of the bad drivers. Sorry."
In a form of mild defense, we get a lot of so-called "wintry mix", a combination of snow, sleet, hail, and rain, which can be quite unpredictable even at very low accumulations. And black ice is a sure 'nuff thing 'round here.
