Interesting. I'd probably spend $30 on that before spending $50 on a Schnozzel, although I need another device to think about charging like I need a hole in the head. I seem to recall the article you are referring to as well. My guess is that storage conditions probably have more to do with mold growth than whether or not the pad was mouth-inflated. Either will work, but I’ve seen otherwise lightweight thru hiker types use the Thermarest battery powered pump. On the other side, I’ve used a nyloflume liner bag that I’ve trapped air in and making a seal with one finger/thumb to squeeze air in. It works but not the most efficient.. I’ll probably go with another bag inflator system, like texasbb posted, as my next purchase will likely be the related Xtherm (reg). Seem too many Xlites end up like pool toys with blown baffles, … and warmth is becoming more important. Also the tougher skin (pad jousting by the cacti anyone?) …I can't find it now but I read an article where they cut open old mats that were mouth inflated over their lifetime. No mold or other issues after years of use. I was kind of surprised but I guess damp air is in there only until you squeeze it out. Damp air wise, read periodically hanging an inflator in the sun with the valve open helps a lot. |

I have an Xlite and find the inflation bag that came with it horribly inefficient, oddly shaped, and heavy. Instead I use the Schnozzel from an Exped Synmat pad. The Schnozzel is beautifully engineered, easy to use, efficient, and definitely worth it. It doubles as a dry bag to keep my sleeping bag and camp clothes protected. Requires a little 1-inch bit of rubber tubing as a converter to work with the Neoair. When you say "1 inch bit..." are you talking about the length or diameter of the tubing? If length, do you know what diameter you used? |

If length, do you know what diameter you used? I was referring to the length, and 1" would be about the minimum...it could be longer if you wanted. Diameter (inside) measures 3/4 inch, but as you can see, it's a bit smaller than the Xlite's valve. I warmed it up with a heat gun (hair dryer would do) to cajole it on. The other end fits easily over the Schnozzel's connector. |

I wish some company like Sea to Summit would make a 2 litre concertina water bottle for which you could buy a separate screw on lid with a valve/adaptor so you could just pump any mat with the bottle.
