For the record, I have what I believe is an old Gossamer Gear pack. Small, no hip belt, no structure at all, flip top, and one strap which was sewn on in a twisted state.

i'm currently testing a RAB Aeon 20 liter day pack. there are various iterations, a lighter weigh 'ultra' and a larger size. hip belt is more like fins on the side, but they work. i've had good experience with some smaller Mystery Ranch and Osprey backpacks. depending on your needs, you could look at climbing bags like Cold Cold World, Cilogear - I have a Cold Cold World Ozone that's the go-to small pack for summits and bushwhacking, it's close to indestructible if you don't need a lot of bells and whistles or a usable hip belt. I would also have suggested Wild Things Gear's Guide Pack, which I like a lot, but they haven't made them in years.
