Lennox,
Saw the rest of your group set on this in other thread. There's gonna be mud in Lost Creek. IT's been raining like f'n Hades there for a month and a half.
Every single snotel site in Colorado's Sangres has zeroed out. Raining hard there too but I've got a lot of fond memories working around heavy showers in the Sangres.
I can't answer your specific questions but Bison is a wonderful hike from Ute Creek.

lennox, I don't know Lost Creek well enough to address your questions in the other thread. absarokanaut is right it's been very very wet here, but I would imagine the soils in the LC, being a lot of decomposed granite, dry out pretty well. Forecast is showing signs of drying out after this week.... I was in the Flat Tops last Friday and it was in good shape.

I was thinking of hitting the Mandall lakes area again this weekend.

marmotstew I was down in the far SE of the Wilderness out of Sweetwater Lake (Hilltop TH). So a long way from Mandall Lakes. Should be beautiful. Ice should be well off. Fishing?

I always bring the fly rod. But didn’t set it up this trip. Lake still had ice on the edges. Lots of snow around 1 mile left to the lake. And more after about 3 inches of snow that fell overnight. Quite a wet muddy time coming down. This was in the morning:

marmotstew WOW. Still winter. Amazing. What's the elevation of that lake? I just looked and they are higher than I thought. I was thinking 10K or even less but some of them are well over that. Here's Sweetwater last week. No snow in the neighborhood. But it's only 8K or so.

By way of contrast...
Sangres, Groundhog Basin (about 11,300), looking up to Eureka Mountain (13,500), June 14. Not much snow.

Yeah I should have headed down to the Sangres.
Slide mandall lake is just under 10700. I think Swetwater is near the trailhead to Sheperds lake.

Yeah I should have headed down to the Sangres. Given your handle, you might have felt particularly unwelcomed by the local rodent mafia.

Groundhog is one of the most wildlife filled mountain drainages I've ever been. Went in glorious weather one early November. Just awesome. I've seen goats there but some time ago.
The only good marmot is a stewed marmot.
