By the end of this month, I should be able to see without glasses since I was 7 in 1957. I'm nervous and excited.

My dad had cataract surgery many years ago. I think he was in his early 80s at the time. But it provided a definite improvement in his vision. Best of luck to you!

I had this done last summer with amazing results. My distance vision is so much improved. No need to be nervous, just excited. This is a good thing.

The new tech is amazing, that entire corrective custom lenses really ups the results.

Right eye is done, but I still have a patch over it. I go back to the doctor tomorrow so he can take a look at it. Funny thing, he called me this afternoon, told me who he was and I said "How are you doing?" Then I realized it was him who should be asking.....

The doctor's office visit was good. I lost the patch and I can see 20/20 out of my right eye. The left eye is to be done later this month.

I was told I probably have lens cataracts on my last visit to the optometrist. Both he and my wife are pushing me to get the lens replacement done, but I'm not a big fan of "surgical procedures", even if what I hear about the "procedure" is almost always positive. Been wearing glasses since I was a kid in 5th grade, so 10 years old (1955).
This is just like my luck: I just starting buying glasses from Zenni for 10 bucks, and now they tell me I can get it "surgically corrected", but for ~$4500.

Conditions of functionality can dictate the decision: from what I understand night vision capability tends to be a limiter at some point. Im thinking safe night driving will be my criteria.

This is just like my luck: I just starting buying glasses from Zenni for 10 bucks, and now they tell me I can get it "surgically corrected", but for ~$4500. I started wearing glasses when I was in the third grade. I was really near-sighted so without my glasses I could hardly see anything clear that wasn't within a foot of my eyeballs. But even though I couldn't function without them, I hated wearing glasses. They were always getting in my way as well as making activities I wanted to do much more complicated, things like SCUBA diving, water skiing, snow skiing, etc. Added to that was the stress over breaking or losing them. Soft contacts were a bit better but also had their own challenges. Getting to shed those glasses was a great thing for me. But everyone has to know their own comfort level. Though statistically cataract surgery is extremely safe with few complications, and is pretty dang effective, there is always the chance of problems arising, sometimes catastrophic complications. There also comes a time when the risk may outweigh the potential benefit due to age factors. I think any surgery past the age of 70 really needs to take that into consideration, especially surgeries that are not necessary. Additionally, it should be noted that vision after cataract surgery can still degrade. Often there needs to be a laser treatment post surgery and vision may over a few years regress slightly, meaning that the some individuals may need to wear glasses for reading or to sharpen vision. It's an imperfect solution to cataracts. Rumi

It's an imperfect solution to cataracts. Yeah, I've been thinking about that. I fully expect to still require glasses when my time comes, which the eye doctor predicts will be in about 4 years.
