I live in far eastern Oklahoma with the Cookson Hills Game Refuge directly behind our house. There is a pretty 8 foot or so waterfall which was my goal. I just wandered around the hollow which is almost a canyon for a couple of hours, following the small creeks. A meandering creek. Redbud is blooming. It isn't an official wilderness, but it has been at least 60 years since there was any wood cut from this area. There is a road on the ridge on the left side. It stays damp in this area, it is almost a rain forest type environment. There are quite a bit of limestone rocks along the creek beds. Look at the size of that log. This is my goal, a picturesque waterfall 3/4 mile up the hollow from our house. Water seeps out of the limestone walls beside the waterfall. The walk back led through the oak forest. A couple of cute wildflowers. Interesting how the tree is bent over where all the other trees are vertical. I wonder if it is a marker tree pointing to a spring. I know there is one at the edge of our back yard.

Oklahoma has some beautiful hilly areas along the Oklahoma-Arkansas border, along with the Wichita Mountains.

The clear spot just north of the waterfall is an Elk Pasture.

Nice! My only time in that vicinity was a stretch of the Ouachita Trail right on the OK/AR border. Pretty country.

I've hiked that part of the Ouachita twice. I love it as it winds beside the Kiamichi River.
