Yesterday, I ran across this 2022 article that references a fairly old, relatively small sample size study that found that positive attitudes about aging increase longevity. "'Participants with the most positive views of aging were living, on average, seven and a half years longer than those with the most-negative views.' Her research found that people's beliefs about aging transcended 'gender, race, socioeconomic status, age, loneliness, and health.'" So chin up and think happy thoughts about getting old, everyone! The Harvard study on happiness and wellbeing is the largest and longest study on the topic demonstrates that people benefit in all sorts of ways by forming meaningful connections and habits. youtu.be/IStsehNAOL8Rumi

A possibly significant percent of people with a negative attitude towards aging may feel that way due to earlier onset of disabling health issues. Lonliness and financial health may be additional factors.
In other words, the correlation between attitude and longevity might not be so clear cut in terms of cause and effect.

Her research found that people's beliefs about aging transcended 'gender, race, socioeconomic status, age, loneliness, and health.'" True, correlation does not equal causation. But supposedly the study controlled for health, loneliness, socioeconomic status, and other variables and attitude still made a difference.

Of course people with positive attitudes live longer...they must live on to lord over people who are experiencing life authentically.

Yeah, are we saying that Billy Joel was wrong when he wrote "Only the Good Die Young"?
I'm positive I'm getting older. Hope that qualifies.

You are getting older. It started the day you were born.

At 71 I can tell that I have slowed down considerably. With my right leg being mostly titanium from my knee to my ankle I think my backpacking days may be over. I can still do some hiking and that satisfies me. Titanium! I see, yer an ultralighter. Rumi RIP you ultralight Backpacker! Rumi
