Especially in outdoor sports, hydration options have gotten better. In terms of general health, the benefits of adequate hydration are becoming more established.. www.cnn.com/2023/01/02/health/hydration-disease-aging-death-risk-study-wellness/index.htmlThere is a thing about too much water (hyponatremia) but that’s pretty rare. In the military on maneuvers in the desert, the suggestion was for some hydration solutions (like “Gatorade”) … maybe mid-afternoon or so, to keep sodium levels up.

I heard a story on the radio today about dramatic increases in kidney failure among low-income Nepalis working abroad (in the Middle East). Their exploitative employers don't supply enough water for the conditions, so the root cause of their disease appears to be deep dehydration for prolonged periods.
They noted that one problem with kidney failure is that it presents few symptoms until it's quite advanced, often too late to treat.

I've had an almost-lifelong sleeping problem: inability to fall asleep, inability to stay asleep, I was getting maybe four hours of sleep a night for days in a row, five on good nights. I even went to a sleep center for diagnosis and some strategies for sleep, which helped a bit. Last summer because I was doing a lot of bicycling in the heat I bought a simple powdered hydration mix and added it to my bike bottle. It's not real high-power stuff. I liked drinking it, so I started drinking it during the day. I have never really drunk water during the day, mostly just coffee or nothing. Within a couple of days, from one additional bottle of water a day I was sleeping fine, and that continues now. A number of other small other problems I was having have gone away. Now I've got a stainless steel 27 oz bottle and try to drink at least 1.5 of those a day, beyond what I normally have drunk. Life is good. It's a miracle.
The oddest thing is fewer trips to the bathroom, not more. Less concentration of waste > less bladder irritation > less need to go. In spite of the additional water. That's probably a big deal for my kidneys, I bet.

Yes, water is really important. I always need a lot of water when I come back from a workout. But I do forget to replenish water in time, thanks to the timely reminder from my BP Doctor Smartwatch.
