Wife and I are retired. Me 12 years. We day hike most days and if not hike then walk in town a few miles. Wife has walked or hiked (including a few bps) out-of-doors every day for 15 1/2 years in a row. That's a lot of days. Me! well, I got slowed a few times over the years with knee issues and such and probably have about 15 of those 15 1/2 years covered. Be it rain, snow, lightening, hail, sub zero, ice, 100 degrees we are out there. It's our eccentricity. And, it is something to do. Hiked in Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Kansas (believe it), and Colorado this year. So, if we manage three day hikes before the first we will break our yearly record of hikes. I guess it really is a so what. So, we have six days to do three to reach 358. Had 357 five years ago. Weather says hiking is probable this week as the zero nonsense and snow stuff is not expected. Probably we will do it (hike - not that) and she will kick her heels together, I would probably trip if I could get my heels off of the ground that high, in celebration. I know, we are nuts. Maybe just I.

Kansas I believe as there are more hiking trails there than people would believe. Most of them are by the lakes, but I know one of them is in the southwest corner at Cimarron National Grasslands.

That's impressive! I have a very good record for exercising daily (since I swim, not all are outdoors), but certainly not without missing days. Totally failed to get out on Xmas day, for example. Travel days can have very limited walks, and sometimes not outdoors at all, just in airports. So I'm in awe of your wife's accomplishment, leafwalker

May the trail rise to meet your feet and never your forehead.

There have been times when I had to spend a few days in a larger town or city but had plenty of free time. So I just took off walking from the motel I stayed at. And maybe hours later I found my way back.
No one there knew me. No one offered me a ride. And while there may have been plenty of scenic areas I would have preferred to the concrete, pavement, and city lights, walking gave me great freedom from the enclosures of walls or car doors.
There is such a variety of weather in the course of a year or 15. But through it all, walking is a great freedom. It's a pleasure to enjoy it with you.

I totally agree with Travis. Walking is one of the great pleasures in my life. If I don’t get my daily walk in with my dog, the day just doesn’t feel right or complete. While I love walking the trails in the woods, hills, mountains, etc., I thoroughly enjoy walking around cities, especillay large ones I haven’t been to before. Regardless, walking is plain good.

Amazing. Congrats! I try to walk on local trails at least 3-4 times/week. Daily would be even better but I work and am a single mom and so... I try.

Colin Fletcher wrote The Complete Walker; you and your wife are the complete walkers...! How cool! That’s great to hear. Not only do you get the physical benefits from walking and day hiking, you get the mental health benefits, too. Keep on walking and day hiking...! It’s a true pleasure to walk/hike on a daily basis and a great way to live.
Happy Trails,
DR
