We are going to the Philippines to visit my wife's family for Christmas. So, we are celebrating Christmas with my parents here during Thanksgiving. Dad and I both like history books, so I have been reading the books I plan to wrap soon.
#1 Dodge City: Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and the Wickedest Town in the American West by Tom Clavin It made the New York Times Bestseller list I enjoyed this book, as it covered the lives of Wyatt and Bat, and happenings in Dodge City, Tombstone and other places. It filled in a lot of gaps in my own knowledge.
#2 Battle for the Big Top: P.T. Barnum, James Bailey, John Ringling and the Death-Defying Saga of the American Circus by Les Standiford This was a fun book to read, and also filled in the gaps in my knowledge beyond another circus book I read a few years ago and the movie The Greatest Showman. It is a shame that they shut down operations just a few years ago. I've seen a few circuses that came to Gunnison in the past couple of decades. But, none of them matched the Ringling Brothers/Barnum & Bailey circus that I saw as a kid.
#3 The Twenty-Fifth Amendment: Its Complete History and Applications - 3rd Ed. by John D. Feerick A good book on the topic, but VERY tedious, as it went through EVERYTHING in the process to come up with the amendment. I did enjoy, though, reading about it's first applications during the Nixon/Agnew/Ford/Rockefeller years.

Those do sound excellent. The first two are available right now with the Library of Congress audiobook collection so they went on my list for the near future. Historical period pieces are of great interest.
