Despite my doubts, and almost a year later, I finally received a stove today, along with a beautiful ti pot in which the stove fits. The entire kit seems really well designed and built. More later after I have a chance (in the current 3 digit temps!) to use it.

Although, I'm afraid to admit, the appeal of using a wood burner is diminished by the fire restrictions in place across the West most of the season.

The way the temps have been I'm more interested in the portable ice cube maker someone posted. Maybe someone will make a battery powered AC for a tent.

I get it: I can't even use a woodburner in a state park! I guess I shouldn't even post about the things anymore. I've also evolved my alcohol stove to a Lixada/Toaks siphon, which works well with minimal attention, never fails to boil water more quickly than I've ever expected an alky stove to do (~5 mins), and is very light and compact. Still, hardly anyone needs anything in an alcohol stove beyond what could be obtained 30 to 50 years ago, or even earlier: a Trangia/White Box will work just fine. My curiosity seems to get the better of me. Just don't pay any attention to the old, addled gentleman with the scorched fingers and missing eyebrows. :^)

Yeah, as much as I prefer alcohol stoves, I don't feel safe in assuming that any prevailing lack of restrictions will persist through my trip. I've reverted to canister-only. I just hope I don't have to go back to white gas.

I can't even use a woodburner in a state park! Pretty sure you can't even use alcohol in Texas State Parks anymore. I think current regulations specify containerized fuel and a shutoff valve.

With wildfires becoming so common shutoff valves are arriving in more and more out of doors regulations.
