I had Lyme disease one year ago, cured with doxycycline. Recently I tested positive again, with a difference: I tested negative for the antibodies that indicate a current or recent infection and positive for antibodies that indicate either advanced-stage Lyme, chronic Lyme, or a previous infection. Since I have no symptoms, doctor said I don't need treatment. I'm assuming I have antibodies left from the previous infection. Advanced-stage and chronic Lyme have serious symptoms, which I don't have. Has anyone else had this experience of testing positive long after the original infection? Studies show you can test positive 10 to 20 years later.

I have no advice or thoughts on your specific questions but I'll be watching this thread since I just recently had a horrible experience with Lymes but hopefully on the other side of it now. I'm two weeks after being done with antibiotics and am finally feeling like my normal self.

Coolkat, what was the horrible part of your experience with Lyme? Mine was that last year my doctor didn't tell me I had Lyme disease until 3 weeks after I tested positive, which put me into a higher stage of the disease. Doxycycline helped immediately, though it wasn't fun when the borreli died off.

Coolkat, thanks, I read that thread. I hope you're feeling better. I can definitely identify with the emotional aftermath that you mention---I was afraid to go to grassy or wooded areas for a long time and did no yard work on my property for a year. Finally I couldn't postpone that any longer. Eventually the fear faded and the second time I was diagnosed wasn't as traumatic. I'm still symptom free.

Now that is very good! I know others who are still dealing with it years later.
