I hit 200 miles on mine about a month ago and had to retire them. Too many things breaking down on them and I started to develop some foot issues (not related directly to them). I've since jumped on board the Altra bandwagon to try and work out some of my issues. Getting old I guess.

I’d like to replace mine three times a year instead of two but really need big events like the solstices to remind me it’s time. Adding the equinoxes makes that four times a year, a bit too often. So I just ordered a fresh tube of Shoe Goo to at least bond the outer soles where the rocks are trying to tear them loose. I need three major celestial events four months apart. Lol I’ll have to make do with some repairs in lieu.

I wrote down the replacement months kind of like the air filter for the air conditioning system. The summer solstice is still the anchor. Shoes are the most replaced gear as most other things go for years and some can go for decades. Mine get me around everywhere and stopped me on a dime this morning coming face on to a huge orb web off trail, really amazing work of art. It photographed okay. We go to extremes not to destroy them, inhabited by the Argiope genus of spider in the family orb weavers.

That would seem more like Summer Solstice, Halloween, Valentine's Day.

Those will be helpful reminders. Pretty much summer solstice, October 20 and February 20. That means one month hence so must order in a couple weeks.

Looks like those shoes have seen some good mileage in the three and a half months you’ve had them. How often do you replace them? I replace mine every summer and winter solstice but it should be even more frequent. EVA midsoles are wonderful until they aren’t. This is the first time I purchased Salomon trail shoes. I think the six month-mark is when they will need to be replaced. I'd love to see a harder sole and a rock plate on these models. The fit is perfect for me. Regards, DR

I’m using Keen Arroyos and as well as they hold up they just aren’t quite making six months. They work well for the terrain and climate with cushy midsoles and huge ventilation openings. After 400 miles the midsoles aren’t stable enough on all of the verticals of canyon and mountain. These do protect the feet over our very rocky terrain and have good grip over most surfaces so I’m sticking with them. My orthotics last much longer so it’s just the price of the shoes.

These shoes lasted two hikes—-less than 4 months—-before the soles were worn out/worn through after my last post in September. Very disappointing as I really liked the fit and how they felt. Plus, I really like the chevrons for traction. I will not be buying another pair unless they go to a harder sole with a rock plate on them.

Thanks for that info. Did they wear through, or was it like the problem I’ve had with Keen Targhee boots—parts are glued on and come unglued?

Thats very surprising. I had over 200 miles on mine before they started to give out, and even then it had nothing to do with the soles.
