I think it's counterproductive to fall in love with a shoe (or it's features/specifications) before you try it on.

From what I've read Salomon makes excellent footwear, but they're too narrow in the forefoot for me.

The speedcross 3 are my primary trail running shoes. Besides the lacing system feeling like its a mile long, I'm a big fan of them. But they aren't a versatile shoe. They feel like roller skates on concrete, so as soon as i get back to the trailhead I take them off.

But it’s not a problem for me as I usually switch back to other shoes when I get back to my Tacoma. Killer treads (chevrons) on these shoes. Hope you’re well, FS...! Regards, DR

Still enjoying these shoes. Awesome tread and great fit. I wouldn’t mind more cushioning from the insole, as well as a rock plate. I do feel rocks when I hike.
Regards,
DR

Regards, DR yea, I believe the XA series are the only shoes they make with a rock plate, although i seem to remember them coming out with an "S-Lab" version of the speedcross a few years back that had a rock plate.

... Quality construction, didn’t notice any defects. Killer tread .. I dunno. A PCT hiker using them on the trail this year I met in Wrightwood said his would be needing replacement at mile 400 where they used to last until 700 (though tbf zero-drop enthusiasts have been complaining about the drop in Lone Peak longevity for a couple years too. I’d compare how much you get out of them by keeping a simple record of miles hikes (or walked if using them urban settings).

My current pair is barely over 160 and i'm already seeing signs of wear and tear. Not everyone likes the strava app, but its a great way to keep track of the mileage on your shoes (or bike tires).

Gotta check that app out.. In the case of Altra’s, users started noticing a decline in longevity when VF Corp bought them. VF just wants the money and turnover is the place to do it.

Still enjoying these shoes. I hike 3 x a week in them. Really like the chevrons on the soles (traction/grip). These shoes could use a much more comfortable (padded) insole in addition to a harder outsole (something similar to what La Sportiva uses). So far the only wear ‘n tear is the outsoles. I’ll update more in two months.

I've been wearing Speedcross since 4, maybe 3. Good shoes, which I wear everywhere - trail, carpet, pavement, and so on. They'll wear out faster than a more typical Merrell or Keen hiking shoe, but the soles are obviously quite different.

Looks like those shoes have seen some good mileage in the three and a half months you’ve had them. How often do you replace them?
I replace mine every summer and winter solstice but it should be even more frequent. EVA midsoles are wonderful until they aren’t.
