How about a bubble in the fluid filled compass? Anyone know of a shop that will repair that? I have a couple of Silva compasses that at one time I forgot and left in the truck in freezing temps resulting in air getting into the compass.

That's not a fixable condition, unfortunately. I think the root cause is invisible cracks somewhere in the capsule. I've lost a handful of them to that malady.

First, a small buble shouldn't be a problem. Some compasses need them to stop the case from rupturing when they get hot.
Silva, I believe, have lifetime warranties. Contact them. I read they usually don't bother asking for the old one back. They just send a new one.
But maybe before that try leaving them in the sun for a while. It might make the bubbles go away for a while.

Bubbles can come and go with temperature and pressure. They tend to get progressively worse, although sometimes very slowly.

The bubbles getting bigger with altitude makes me think about the first time I went to Colorado. I stayed with a friend and we drove up Pike's Peak. Before we left he insisted we buy some bags of potato chips. By the time we got to the top the bags were inflated like full balloons from the drop in pressure. It was a good demo. We also tried having a catch with a Frisbee. It didn't fly so well up there and easy to get winded trying to run and catch it.
