I never thought of a steel wool windscreen if that's what that is.

driftwoody There's a number of flame protector cloths out there. Some for welding that also protect surfaces when soldering.

I never thought of a steel wool windscreen if that's what that is. Steel wool is extremely flammable so I’d say that windscreen hopefully isn’t steel wool. Yikes lol

driftwoody There's a number of flame protector cloths out there. Some for welding that also protect surfaces when soldering. Sorry for being so slow. Yeah, it’s a piece of carbon felt plumber’s cloth that came with the tiny stove in a kit. You can get it by the sheet at hardware stores. The stove was, long ago, made by Tinny at MBD, but no more. I found it in a bin while cleaning. I’ve been playing with a few tiny stoves lately. ETA: I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd discreetly "annotate" for info. This thread was created back at the beginning of this month because I was dismayed at the lack of posts in the "Gear" forum, and thought I'd "stir the pot" a bit. I was trying very hard not to become overly verbose - now I find I am once again failing at doing that. But activity has nevertheless increased in the interim w/o me!The stove in the OP pic is, in fact, an MBD Bongo 1/3, but I didn't include that info at the time because, well, Tinny no longer makes any of those, mostly superfluous and over-complicated for the majority of bpers o/s the "MBD cult", stoves after his sabbatical from stove-making a year or so ago. I have a box of those dinosaurs, and it's fun (at least for me) to dig through it now and again and remember. The stoves have their place - in cooking activities like baking and such, but most UL bpers simply don't do any of that. In recent news, I am continuing to probe the edges of the "small stove world" (in order to stay awake). Recently, I saw a new video (by Hiram doing a 'boil test' using the Evernew DX and Ti stove (the Trangia-style one), which achieved a somewhat surprising (for Hiram and me) boil time of 4:45. The set weighs a bit over 3 oz., but is probably still too complicated for the ULers.
