Wonderful photos, as always. What a poignant and painful experience that must have been remembering your younger brother at the place of his death.

Back in the world. Mission accomplished. Hiked 1500 miles on the Appalachian Trail. Rather than a thru-hike, opted for a Goldilocks outing. Not too long, not too short, not all on trail, just right! Will return next season for final 600 miles. Procrastinated at the end and savored every step. Will treasure the many memories on the Trail and off. Standard early AM start!Zamboni - Detroit, MI - Flipping north down trail and hiking SOBO (Southbound) from Katahdin ensured meeting a plethora of familiar NOBO hikers. Bald Plate MountainNot Bob - New Bedford, MA Very rugged hiking, occasionally offset by aids. A look back at Bald Plate Mountain Waited out a weather day in Bethel, ME Maine Mineral & Gem Museum has the largest collection of moon rocks in the world. Holding rock from Mars on left and Moon on right.Sample from the Murchison meteorite. Famous for containing amino acids which are the building blocks of life.Beaver dam at Speck PondOld Spec (4,170')Mahoosuc Notch - Very narrow and choked with large bouldersOn occasion you need to remove you pack and crawl. Very rugged indeed. Took 3-1/2 hours to negotiate the one-mile lengthStray and Gypsy celebrate coming out of the notch!Very useful, especially on descent.Alpine zone traversing the Goose Eye (3) summits along the Mahoosuc RidgeThe East PeakWhite Socks - Part of a group I spent a lot of time with the last 200+ miles. Will miss them.New Hampshire will always be home!KFC - Kate from Chicago Androscoggin River and dam near Gorham, NH MDW - Chicago. An abrupt transition from life on the trail

On the trail you meet many hikers. Hiking the AT is a small world. I frequently crossed paths with Kanga and knew him well as did many hikers. Very saddened by his loss. He always had a smile and a kind word. To his family and many friends, my heartfelt condolences. RIP Joey, "See you down trail" NH State Police News
