I'm going to apply for a permit for the Wonderland Trail when the early lottery opens up this coming week, but if I don't get a permit, I'm going to head over to Olympic National Park. That will occur during the last week of August and leading into Labor Day weekend. I am also going to apply for a permit through the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest so I can hike into Yosemite and do the Matterhorn-Kerrick canyon loop--something I've been wanting to do ever since I read a Backpacker article on it in 2003. This will occur the first week of October. I would enjoy company on these longer backpack trips. While I do also enjoy solo weekend/overnight trips, I also like the camaraderie of sharing experiences with other like-minded folks. So, if anyone is interested in getting together on any of the trips I mentioned above, let me know.
I did the Kerrick-Matterhorn loop back in 2007. I went counter clockwise, and it seemed like we did it backwards, but I enjoyed the views of the Sawtooths as we walked up the valley. Best of luck on any of those permits.

Catdaddy, I'd be interested in joining you for the early October Hike on the Matterhorn-Kerrick Canyon Loop trip. I also had applied for the Wonderland Trail Lottery and results were back last week and I didn't get in. So I'd definitely be interested in joining you on that 47 mile loop in Yosemite. Let's connect . I'll be out in Washington State with my Brother for the period of time that you plan to be in the Olympics, otherwise I'd also join you there as well.
hiker256: I didn't win an early lottery reservation either. I've decided to forget about a summer backpacking trip and am focusing on the Yosemite trip. I'll be putting in for the reservation in late March/early April.
