Any comments on my post directly above this? I need to make my reservation Friday. This would be for July 12-15. Of course, none of those may be available then so might just have to wing it. We did the skyrim trail in July 2017 - first night at WF2 (Upper Dailey Creek), hiked the rim day 2 and camped at WF1 (Black Butte Creek) that night. Hiked out Day 3. We ended up walking the last mile or so on the road coming out, which I don't necessarily recommend. The hike was absolutely beautiful - we misjudged the length of Day 2, though, and it was a slog by the end. The last big hill was a bugger. Since there's no water on skyrim, you have to haul it all, and that plus bear cannisters made for heavier-than-I-like packs. It was an amazing trip and our only disappointment was that we didn't see any bears. Day 1 and Day 3 were easy, but Day 2 across the ridge was challenging. I'd do it again!

We're set for Skyrim. Since we have 3 nights available I decided to extend it a bit so we're at WE6, WE5 (likely hit Sheep Mtn also this day) and then WF2.

Just thought I'd chime in on the snow-water equivalents ["snowpack"] right now. If you get on Snotel you're going to see a fair number of sites at higher elevations showing near "normal" SWE. A reminder that the "average" no longer considers 1980s data so "normals" are lower than they were just a couple of years ago. You'll also see lower elevation stations are generally showing considerably drier conditions, part of our "new normal" where lower elevations are on an arguably quicker melt out than higher elevations in comparison. I had to give someone a ride to Dubois, WY yesterday. I zoomed my old Canon Powershot on Castle Rock, my go to early season high elevation option. Normally I wouldn't do it until mid June but if the East Fork road were open that far I see a good almost snowless route right now. Castle Creek Snotel shows 57% of normal SWE but its that new "normal." The Pinnacle Buttes are way ahead of "schedule" too. Togwotee Pass might 2' of snow over the next few days. Hoping it is heavy moisture laden Absaroka Adobe but we'll take what we can get.
