As of today, campfires are prohibited, even in established campgrounds. Many National Forests north of us are completely closed.

Looks like it’s time to dust off the skis for some winter camping. Sigh /?d=n

I just moved from Reno to Chico, CA a couple months ago and was looking forward to doing a couple quick trips in nearby Lassen NP this summer. Well, obviously that's out. With all the smoke, I don't think there is anywhere up north here in CA to go backpacking, and I wonder when there will be. It could be a couple months. I'm afraid this could be the new normal: smoke all summer every year. Bummer.

I've been watching Lassen closely. Just camped at Butte Lake in June. And camped at Summit Lake last year (from which we had to evacuate in the 2012 Reading Fire.) The fire has moved through both areas but all that has actually burned has yet to be reported. georgeofthej what part of Chico did you move to?

what part of Chico did you move to? I Live east of 99 near Hwy 32 in an area called California Park. Are you familiar with the town? The last place I camped in Lassen NP was Snag Lake on the peninsula in 2017. It looks like the fire burned through that area.

I Live east of 99 near Hwy 32 in an area called California Park. Are you familiar with the town? My mom lived in California Park until she passed away (one year from tomorrow.) My sis lives quite near there in that country club by Upper Bidwell Park. (She had to relocate after the Camp Fire. ) Rebecca lives nearby also!

I guess Chico is a nice enough town and I like it better than most of the Calif Central Valley. I'm sorry you lost your mom, Hikerchick.
