In case you are considering gravity here is a pic and video of my set up using a CNOC 3L dirty bag, Sawyer Squeeze and an Platypus 2L (usually an Evernew 2L) clean bag. It has been working well for me. I think 2L in less then 10 minutes and it does it without any effort from me past setting it up. The two bags together give me a 5L carrying capacity. It was odd at first carrying dirty water but I got used to the idea it doesn't matter when you filter it with this system:

Thanks ErnieW, from the flow rate in the video I'm guessing that is not the mini version of the squeeze.

Here is the Sawyer product page. They have changed their line up a bit: sawyer.com/products/?type=water-filtrationBasically there is the Squeeze, the Mini and now the Micro Squeeze. Mine is the Squeeze. I have had the flow get reduced but so far back flushing has restored the filter fully and it was done easily in the field. It does mean carrying the syringe to do this. It is light but it is an extra item. You have to replace the Sawyer bags. At least two years ago, they had serious quality problems. Also the CNOC has a full rear opening that allows you to collect from very small trickles or very quickly from deeper water sources. I really recommend one for the dirty bag.

I took water directly out of the Colorado while down in the Grand Canyon, and used my Sawyer mini in a gravity situation, mostly at night. Even though back washing it regularly was required, the filter held up well and gave me 3 liters in about 15 minutes, including drawing the water from the river.
I've used several pumps over the years, then went to Aqua Mira drops. Tried 1 Steri-pen and moved on when it failed me shortly after getting it. I went to this current set up about 10 years ago, and have been happy with it. I figure water treatment / filtering/ sterilizing is a personal thing. Plenty of choices out there, and as long as it works for you, no big deal.
I also dislike petzel ignition stoves because I've seen too many fail for me or my hiking partners.

I was just rereading the Sawyer page and it looks like now they give water bags that are now somehow different (softer?). Also it looks like what they are doing with the Mini Squeeze is giving you a cleaning coupler instead of the syringe to back wash the unit. I guess you put your clean water bottle on and squeeze to back wash now. Not a bad idea.

I never understood why the Sawyer bags were such garbage. Kept the price down? I haven't carried one in at least 8 years, but still am a Sawyer devotee. They've never let me down. Like Zeke, I also prefer a mini bic or waterproof/windproof match over piezo electric starter. Had a stove with one that failed, but matches stashed in a emergency kit saved the day. Steripen looked interesting, but.......

I also dislike petzel ignition stoves because I've seen too many fail for me or my hiking partners. I like the stoves, but I sure don't rely on the ignitors! They will always fail, it's not if but when. They're a nice convenience when they work, but I always take backup.

I figure water treatment / filtering/ sterilizing is a personal thing. Plenty of choices out there, and as long as it works for you, no big deal. Second that! Used a pump when starting out and for trips where water supply is expected not to be clear. Always into 2 1 L containers. For cleaner, fast moving water I went to Aquamira as it's so lightweight. Just a 30 min wait and taste doesn't bother me. Go to solution for places like the Wind Rivers. Along the AT and in Big Bend this fall will use a gravity system: CNOC with a Sawyer.

Beartooth Water Co. That's been our (Tim's) setup past few years. Large Sea-to-Summit bucket, soda bottle scooper, two bags and a Sawyer Squeeze. Very doable if you're hiking lake to lake with lots of clear water around. I used an MSR Miniworks for years, but the Squeeze is so much faster. You do have to be diligent about backwashing and testing the filter before setting out. I once forgot to do this and wound up trading TP for the use of a pump in NH.

Challenge there isn't filtering water, it is finding it! Where in the park are you headed?
