Filson #180 Whipcord pants were the best thing they made. They dropped them years back. I’m glad I’ve still got mine.

I like Forestry cloth and tin cloth. Sure they cost a lot, especially now.
Take your groovy Goretex, hard shell, soft shell, latest cool jackets to SE Alaska. They will be shredded in the brush by the second day. You will be clammy from sweat in 1/2 hour. When you fall, which will happen frequently because everything is slippery you will slide down open slopes and will not be able to stop. It is like falling on a black diamond ski run.
Ask me how I know that this will happen.

The $495 price for the Mackinaw jacket is blowing my mind. It's a lot, but it's less ridiculous than it seems. There's a ton of wool in those things, and that super thick fabric is hard to sew and leaves expensive waste. I think the cost of materials alone is $150-$175.

I wonder how many hours of labor it takes to make this jacket? Plus, you have to factor in union labor as it is handmade in Seattle. I noticed Filson quit making their Double Mackinaw jackets. I noticed Filson quit making their Double Mackinaw jackets. It's hard to tell for sure. Based on previous years, they pull it from their website when stock runs out, then it goes back on when the season arrives. I suspect they do a single production run per year based on a sales forecast, and when they sell out, that's it. However, the season is coming up so I'd be worried if it doesn't show up soon.

I’ve read it on several sites. I’m really surprised, though. It’s been around a long time. www.campsaver.com/filson-double-mackinaw-cruiser-jacket.html

As far as I know, it was the last one on the market after Woolrich and LL Bean quit. Vintage prices will probably rise.

I felt the same way when Filson quit making their 865 wool shirt! It was an outstanding Merino wool shirt. The cut/design had been around forever. Since the gold rush in the 1800s. Over the years I’ve picked up several on eBay. I have plenty in navy and red, but forest has eluded me. Hope to add forest one of these days. Regards, DR

I like it better without a hood. Don’t like the looks with that hood. A guy I worked with won a double Mack in a raffle at an outdoor store when I lived in Montana. Lucky guy! Really nice looking in charcoal. In the next few weeks I’m heading up to Seattle. I’ll swing by Feathered Friends and Filson when I’m up there. We have a Filson store here in Portland, too. I’ll get a belt or two from Filson soon. Regards, DR

I'm holding off, as much as I'd like one. It overlaps too much with my Schott Pea Coat, which I can wear as a dress overcoat for business use (and was $650 less because I got a great deal on it).
