We are just back from a three week trip to the Ruby Mountains, Yellowstone, Grant Tetons, Rocky Mountain NP, and Dinosaur NM. Quite an adventure with some serious smoke in places, serious rain in others...and my sister's generous offer of a bedroom at her cabin in the YMCA camp in RMNP... And we were joined by both daughters and one boyfriend in Yellowstone--- The full trip report should be up shortly on our website: www.backpackthesierra.com/blog-1Among the highlights: Hiking in the Ruby Mountains with our younger daughter, Having an elk bed down next to our tent in Yellowstone--effectively blocking access. Oops. Watching as a bison herd wandered though the picnic area where we were trying to cook dinner. Hold the mayo! Watching coyotes drive a wolf away from their den in the Lamar Valley, Rock climbing in the Tetons with my older daughter, who is a much better climber than I am, Hiking through both rain and smoke in RMNP... Having a true campsite mix-up in the Manti-La Sal NF...what a mess. Both fossils and petroglyphs in Dinosaur NM And smoke for hundreds of miles on the way home. Lots of fun!

Glad you had a good time. IF you come back unless you really like that heavy "Texmex" stuff at El Abuelitos try San Juan Restaurant, some of my favorite Mexican and Puerto Rican food in the world. Picas and Merry Piglets are also favored by most of us over Grandpa's. Good to hear Caldera was good. Pinky G's can get inconsistent.

We didn't really go to Jackson for the food---we live in Napa Valley, after all--but were pleasantly surprised. And while Abuelitos was heavy, the food was delivered promptly, piping hot, and with a smile.
Don't get me started about the restaurants in most of our national parks....

Yeah, if you'd gone to Jackson for the food you'd have gotten the world famous rack of Lamb at the Blue Lion, the Buffalo Prime Rib at The Gunbarrel, etc. Great having one of the finest dining destinations of its size in the world here.
As to food in National Parks before the pandemic in YNP only the Dining Room at the Lake Hotel was known to be good-excellent. By contrast for decades the food in Grand Teton was known to be good-excellent in all locations. Among other unfortunate realities in '21 it's a real shame the Pioneer Grille at JLL is closed.

absarokanaut Having eaten at about all of them, I would say Trio is my favorite Jackson restaurant.

Don't get me started about the restaurants in most of our national parks.... You know the solution to that is to hike more. Nothing like exhaustion, hunger and dehydrated food to make the next restaurant meal rank as one of the best meals ever.

Have you been to Orsetto Brad? I haven't, but saw it downtown. I believe it's quite new? You like it? I just got back yesterday for a quick/last minute overnight (work) trip. It's the first time I've been to JAC in 14 mo's. Of course it was wall-to-wall tourists! We ended up eating at The Kitchen, and had a great meal.
