Thankfully, I don't deal much with chafing, but a little concerned about a longer trip I'm taking in a couple of weeks.
Beyond prevention, what's your choice to handle chafing?
If you buy a product, do you carry it as manufactured or repackage it to save size/weight?
At the moment I'm thinking the smallest Body Glide stick.

I'm a big fan of Body Glide, generally.
Also, as you acknowledged, prevention is key. I find that longer boxer briefs that hold everything firmly in place are a big help.

Body Glide for prevention, but once it gets past that (if it does):

Actually it came up in another thread that sunscreens that have zinc oxide in them have the same % as A&D diaper cream (%10). I like A&D better than Desitin (max has %40 zinc oxide) sometimes because Desitin has cod liver oil in it (and smells of it a bit. Bear bait?). Desitin stays on much better and lasts longer though. So for right now Blue Lizard sunscreen is what I am now carrying for this if needed. I haven't had a need to use it yet for this application. Since going to poly sport boxer briefs (ExOfficio) I haven't needed this kind of treatment for years now. Cotton kills in more ways than one. I think the legs of boxer briefs wick away moisture from the problem area as well as stop chaffing on the upper thighs.
I have been repackaging my sunscreen/monkey butt treatment into these.

The older version of gold bond with talc works great for prevention. The new one that is talc free not so much. Desitin is great for after as already stated.

and from Captain Obvious: keep the netherworld clean. Bring an extra underwear. At day's end, get out of the sweaty undies, clean yourself (and the undies) daily. That'll help avoid the problem to begin with.

My routine is on the first morning starting out on a trip to give those areas a good wipe down with Vaseline. I never hike in underwear in the spring/summer/early fall. I use "water shorts" with a built-in brief (think Patagonia Baggies). If I am hiking in long pants I use a synthetic brief-style underwear.
If I remember the Vaseline the first morning I never have problems, and have never needed more than that first morning's treatment.

True to an extent, but we all have differently configured nether parts and the cut and fabric of your clothes can influence the issue. And environment. It is no accident that Buttro's Butt Butter came out of Louisana.

Another remedy is a liberal dose of Tryactin.

A poster has to have some memory left over to recall the flaming dumpster thread that we now include in the set of questions to newbies. I'm not quite sure why it took so long for this answer to be given to the question that started the thread, but a good chuckle is always nice.
