Three of us hope to return to the Winds this August or September. We were in Titcomb Basin in 2014, and now hope to visit Cirque of the Towers area. Because of some health issues, I can't count on carrying "normal" weight for a week-long trip, and am considering a gear drop service. Ideally, we'd set up a base camp in Lizard Head Meadows after a first night at Big Sandy Lake. I think I could carry "one day's worth" into Big Sandy and get the gear drop to go to Lizard Head. But, because it looks like pack animals can't get into the Cirque from the south, is this even practical? If not, 1) any options to get a gear drop into the Cirque area from another direction?, or 2) other suggestions for a good base camp area that can be accessed by pack animals? Thanks!

swimswithtrout will likely have some good suggestions for you. There should be tons of great options available by pack animal. A couple of great basecamps that come to mind are North Fork Lake and Mount Baldy Lake. The Great Outdoors is a great source of information, I don't know if they do gear drops, but I bet they could point you in the right direction.

The GOS is indeed a great resource. trekkerman lives in Pinedale so perhaps he will have some ideas. If you are doing day hikes in the Cirque, then I would think you would be have to be in Lizard Head Meadows though you could move further down the North Fk. Pack animals could come in via Sweetwater Gap or Worthen Meadows THs. If you wanted to basecamp on the backside of the Cirque, I'd opt for Shadow Lake. Spectacular views, though crossing Texas Pass twice for a day hike into the Cirque would be a workout. Another long day hike from Shadow would be East Fork which I think is just as stunning as the Cirque.

quailhiker if you're still out there I could get a reccmmendation for a Pinedale area outfitter. Family of mine own a Guest Ranch/Hunting/Fishing Business outside of Dubois.
