We're very happy with our x-lites for backpacking and bike trips, but my bones don't take to smaller pads as well as they use to thanks to my cancer. We've been using our smaller pads in car camping mode, but want to upgrade. Any suggestions for a larger, thicker pad, maybe even down filled? They do need to at least compress down a little, as some of our trips are with the Prius and have to compete with my fishing gear for space. Thanks.

I haven't owned this product, but you might want to check out Exped Megamat.

I've become a huge fan of Exped pads for car/boat camping. I have a Synmat 3D 7 and a Synmat XP 7, both have R-values in the 5-range but roll up to about 6"x 10". Inflates easily with their "schnozzle pump bag." Lots of size options (I use a "MW" for car-camping) including a 2-person model. I drive a VW GTI and often fly with gear, and these Expeds work really well for me. Check their "Base Camp" and "Trekking" pad options on their website: www.exped.com/international/de/product-category/schlafmatten

Thermarest has some deluxe pads that are very comfortable and are reasonably compact when Rolled and compressed. I have a 30” wide 3” thick pad that serves in my apartment as my guest bed as well as my car-camping or gear-transported-bike-tour sleeping pad. I just stand it on end behind the door of my guest room to store it at home.

Thermarest Neoair XTherm in Size Large.
I suggest this because it really can qualify to do car camping duty, but could also serve you well as a far warmer, larger pad than your Xlites should you want something more for backpacking.

Exped Mega Mat Duo 10 was on sale at REI and I hadn't taken my member money yet, either. Sold! It'll be at my door Thursday. Thanks for the steer DW and Jazzmom. We do have a cold weather UL sleep system already, so this was the specific thing we wanted.

Exped UL Synmat 7 has been my go-to for several years. Full size - 25" wide. Longest length. Folds absolutely flat. I never roll it, just fold it flat and put it in the bottom of my pack. Synthetic fill insulation carries me through spring-late fall in Mid Atlantic conditions. Inflates with their Schnozzle bag (I use that as my sleeping bag stuff sack)
Some whine about the weight of a full size pad, but I like having a really good night's sleep, so whine quietly please.
