Yeah, I got the Basecamp 4. Plenty big enough for me, room for a cot or two, and I can stand up, although I have to tilt my head a bit. I have seen several REI Kingdom tents flattened in summer thunderstorms, so I picked the one with more poles and crossover points that can be secured for rigidity. I’m replacing a very old 4-season dome that has served me well for 25 years, and a Timberline-4 that lasted about 30 years. With the pack marked down 25 percent, 20 percent member discount, a left-over gift card, and an unexpected honorarium from a gig I did as a purely volunteer, this seemed the time to renew some key gear!

You may have noticed but it comes with some fairly rudimentary but heavy duty steel shepherds crook stakes (guessing they’re the same as mine). So for sand etc. you’d want something else and you’ll probably need to get more guy line and more stakes for the assorted guy out points, of which they are pretty generous, for heavy winds.
One feature I’ve appreciated is the roof mesh have zippers so I can access the ceiling vents from inside the tent to button it down for cooling nights.

Yeah, I have two buckets full of stakes of various kinds, for various possibilities. Including oddities like a set of corkscrew anchors made for backyard play sets (used for anchoring telescope tripods in soft, sandy soil at the Nebraska Star Party). I take whichever stakes make sense for expected conditions on a given trip.

I don’t need much. I’m expanding my merino top collection. I might buy an Icebreaker Tech Lite tee.

Garmin inreach. Don't know which one yet. Probably the 66i and just replace the one I have. (62st I think) (62 something).

Just got my new boots. They didn’t have the breathable model in the store, but I was able to get them on line, after checking size and fit with the waterproof version.

Got the Exped Mega Mat large. It was 100 bucks off and free shipping (3 days!) . It's as comfortable as the mattress on our bed that was over a grand. Thanks again to driftwoody and jazzmom for the steer. We love it.

I'm rather proud of myself. I went to the local store to check out the sale and didn't buy a single thing. My wife, not so much.

I have detailed maps on a chip that I hope will work with this. Its one of the reasons why I selected this model.
I thought about getting the inreach mini, but chose the 66i because I am familiar with the setup and the use just as a GPS unit. I'm hoping all I will have to figure out is the satellite communication stuff.
