One thing that puzzles me a bit is that, for the one comparison I've made, FF uses a lot more down fill. The two bags I've compared are the WM Summerlite and the FF Swallow 30. As the specs are listed, the FF is 2 degrees "warmer", and 1 inch wider. But it has 3.6 more ounces of down fill, which is a lot (over 30% more), even if you consider the fill power the two companies use to be more or less equivalent. Something about this equation just doesn't add up for me. Is it possible that this 1 inch of width requires that much more down to achieve the same loft? Or is the FF just more conservatively rated?

Yeah, that's interesting. The FF Swallow 20 only has 0.7 oz's more down the the WM equivalent the Ultralite (though my Ultralite has 2oz's overfill, so 1.3 oz's more thatn the FF). OTOH, as you point out, the Swallow 30 has 4.6 oz's more down than the WM Summerlite, but the Summerlite also weigh's 6oz's less than the Swallow 30. It sure would be helpful if FF disclosed the cut/loft specs.
But the WM bags are not just 1" narrower in the chest, but also 5" narrower in the hips. Through the length of the bag that adds up...

To be fair, the WM bags also come in different widths/girths. So if you're big or you're a side sleeper or your roll back and forth (me), the wider WM bags will work better for you.

You bet, Reuben. I can’t use mummy bags anymore. Way too restrictive. I like a wide foot box, too. Love my WM TerraLite.
