I'm looking for a cheap pair of wind pants or water resistance pants that are light weight. Don't so much care about durability, as I don't anticipate wearing these a lot. Mainly just want something light and compact to carry that I might occasionally use for wind or weather protection or even bug protection around camp. Would like to spend less than $30, but if the right thing came along might spend a little more.
Any suggestions?
Not interested in Frog Togs.

$55-65 will get you a set of Marmot Precip pants. I've had mine almost 15 years, but worn them about 8 times. 8 ounces, so not all that light, but durable. Is $4-6 a year cheap?

I've heard good things about those pants, but to your question, I think I'll wear them so little that I'm not sure about value. Currently looking at these Acme Projects Rain Pants.

I've fond that most rain garmets will definitely keep you dry, but not indefintely.

I’ve owned a couple pair of Marmot Precip or comparable rain pants over the decades. I actually wear them—almost entirely in camp—because they’re the only long pants I pack on summer mountain trips.
Because I don’t hike in them, I’ve never felt the need to invest in higher quality WPB pants. This might be the kind of item you could buy from somewhere like LL Bean, if they offer something cheaper than Marmot Precip.

Also, just curious: if you really expect to wear them so little, why not something like Frogs Togs?

Wouldn't give you the same level of wind/bug protection, but some people seem to really like rain skirts for the added ventilation. You can make your own out of Tyvek: link.

Also, just curious: if you really expect to wear them so little, why not something like Frogs Togs? Heh. I've been rethinking them. I bought a UL set a couple of years ago and they were just ridiculously big and bulky and I never wore them. I'm sure part of that could be cured with a better fit. They also felt like anything would rip them, but I know I'm asking for cheap gear. Given the wisdom here, I was just hoping I could come across something less expensive given I just need the occasional weather protection and to a lesser degree bug protection.

Have been considering that as well, though it wouldn't do much with bugs. Edit: may just combine this with some bugnet pants. both pieces would only be a few ounces together.

They do make tyvek suits, complete with hoods. I would swelter in that, if it was me hiking while wearing such.

My wife and I both have Marmot Precip jackets, they're old enough I don't remember where or when I bought them, likely 10-12+ years. The pants are similar, though hers are a cheaper EMS version. I don't expect we'll need replacements anytime soon. They work well in camp, they've kept us dry enough in rain and have functioned well in wind and for black fly/mosquitos. The only alternative I see is quick drying material or convertible pants. We wear them lots on backpacking and biking trips. We bought EMS on sale, they lasted about 5 years before getting replaced. Putting the legs back on has been extremely handy at times. Poison Ivy, stinging nettles, various biting insects , wind protection etc.... And now with the advent of the raging hordes of ticks ( Lyme disease sucks!!!!!!!!!) treating our pants and shirts with Permethrin is a bonus.
