How much cleaning a pack needs can vary widely with my fleet. Trail dust and dirt can get by with a trip to the shower. Body funk and a mix of food and spilled beverage can make a rank mess that needs a trip to the tub. I like white vinegar and water. Really nasty original dawn dish soap, vinegar solution, and good rinse and dry. I have three Osprey packs that use the Airscape suspension and stretch pockets that are like seed and duff harvester combines. I have to get out the Shop-Vac small hose and suck up that mess before wetting the pack. Four years ago I was ignorant of this and notice both side pockets had about two tablespoons each of forest and range products. Behind the frame sheet and bladder pocket in my Kestrel 38 was a full two cups of debris with seeds, spores, needles and leaves. It is the day pack and gets almost weekly exposure.

"Supposing we hit (the backpack) with a tremendous, whether its ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said, that hasn't been checked but you're gonna test it. And then I said, supposing it brought the light inside the body (of the backpack), which you can either do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you're gonna test that too, sounds interesting. And I then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute, and is there a way you can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning."
sorry!

You might actually succeed in getting a thread on pack cleaning banished to TPA!

I think the sunlight kills the bleach, and makes your pack moldy.

LOL.
I don't think I've ever done anything more than shake the dust/debris out and take a hose to a pack. And even that is usually just in the fall when it's not going to get used much until the next season.

I admit I’ve always just been most concerned to be sure packs are dry and not getting moldy. I do dump out debris after each trip—no point in carrying that extra weight!
