Short and sweet - live above Crowley - (you know the area)...East side Sierra. - Early on the road...Crowley Lake closest fishing but no fun without a boat. Convict Lake also considered but always too crowded, and Lake Mary road still closed at Twin Lakes junction.....so started off backside at June Lake. Calm early but heavy winds came in soon enough, from the north. The usual fishmas fun...Why does it always storm opening day? BTW, 4 inches of snow due here, Mammoth Mountain area tomorrow. - After a lot of hits and misses - (throwing big lures), then being blown out backside June Lake, we tried the east side of Silver...lots of people leaving with stockers...not as crowded as in years past...alas, nothing to relate here as too windy by the time we arrived. Continued past Grant Lake (June Lake Loop) and surprised that the water level there is so low right now you can almost walk across it...sigh! Had considered the wooded stream inlet to Grant (always good) but the wind nixed that plan too. - Stopped off at Lee Vining - Mono Cone for lunch...great shakes, burgers, and onion rings...ate up at the Mono Lake Visiter Center (still seasonally closed but near by, always scenic)...BTW, Mono Lake water level is up. - On the way back home, stopped off to try the Owens... (Green Church road, ~ 3 miles in) and bagged dinner. taut lines! mark

Thanks!
Mono Cone is back? That’s great news. 2019 when I was last back that way it was uncertain what would happen with the owner having passed. It was closed and the Murphy’s people didn’t know what was in its future. Generational shifts can be a tough transition.
Seasonally on track for a reasonable opening of Tioga Rd. I see: the plows have reached the Tioga Entrance the park reports.
Only reserved wilderness permits this year. The held back 40% becomes available 14 days in advance up to 4 days ahead of the entry date with issuance done outside (I expect tented) as the buildings are closed.
It will be interesting to see what changes stick and what they truly see as specific to the pandemic.

Greg caught a 23 inch 5 pound rainbow in Rock Creek Lake yesterday. I think there has not been a lot of fishing there yet.
Finally going out on the boat at Crowley tomorrow.
