Day entry reservations are coming back “temporary” through September.
Good this time for only three days, which I expect is acknowledging the reality a lot of day visitors are short timers, a day or two. This way they get to issue more entry spots.
I’m mostly okay with this. But treating the entire park as a singled destination with one entry number is incorrect for a place the size of the state of Rhode Island. OTOH it’s probably still superior to Arches solution of simply closing the gates when the lots are full.

Ha...last year we were right at the gate when Arches was shutting it. Luckily, they opened it for us because I could immediately show a campsite reservation.

A lot of Arches and Zion’s social media feed are announcements they’re full and closing the gates until people leave. With a more defined destination I can see that, but Yosemite is so dispersed it’s an awkward “solution”.
They probably need to “gate” the Valley a bit like Zion does for that dead end stretch of road leading to the Narrows.
