I have three Tarptents. Bought my first one in 2008 I think. I have NEVER had a bad experience with the product, Henry, or any of his staff.
I remember that thread and Henry's response. This guy has a real problem and should be banned form this site.. And that from someone who will go to great lengths to not say anything bad about anyone.

@va3pinner OP joined, posted in about 15 minutes, and hasn't been back. I doubt he needs banning.
Many of us here own a Shire's product, and I have had many years of use and enjoyment from mine. This guy is off, big time.

I have owned four Tarptents. My two current ones were upgrades from my previous 1p and 2p models. I haven't backpacked in anything but a Tarptent since 2004 or 2005. I'm very happy with the quality and performance of my Tarptents and with how Henry has treated me.

I have left this forum because some here think I posted some racist comments so I really prefer not to contaminate this fine place with my presence .
BUT I do owe the Shires family a lot, given the way I have been treated by them for well over 15 years , so here is my take on the situation. Randy saw an ad for a "TT Moment fly as is" for $90 something discounted to $60 something. Randy happens to have a TT Hogback so he is familiar with the brand so he buys one . He gets the tent, No poles, pegs, stuff sack or any cordage at all including those Delrin bits you find in various spots. (rings, mitten hooks ,clips) just the naked tent fly. The reason is because that tent, along with the other 4 the seller had, had disappeared in transit between the Seattle factory and Tarptent in Nevada City. Of course Randy does not know how the TT product is put together nor do most TT customers for that matter , but I do. The flys and inners arrive at the office and the staff there will examine each one and then add all those missing bits. That is how Henry knew where that fly came from , because no one is going to buy 5 Moments from TT and then strip them of all those bits and sell them cheap. Pretty obvious once you know but somehow this was not either comunicated clearly to Randy or not understood/accepted by him.

I have left this forum because some here think I posted some racist comments I know this isn't the right forum for this, but I feel I have to say this. We've ALL made racist comments. I have and still do and, yeah, it gets pointed out pretty darn quick around my house. But they don't make us racists, just a little ignorant. And if we can accept that feedback, however "unfair" we think they are, we can maybe become a little less ignorant, stop hurting others even if we did so innocently, and not become defined by it. Just a thought.

I came here to say something urging franco to continue to participate here, but I see that jazzmom has said it perfectly already.

Franco, I didn't realize you'd left so just went back and read what was considered "racist." My goodness, if there was ever a tempest in a teapot, it may have been that thread- and really it was only one person that objected to your analogy, not the entire cast and crew of Backpacker Basecamp. Seems everyone's a bit sensitive these days, but I saw nothing objectively "racist" in your comments, just an observation about how all humans, me included, can perceive others of differing race. And of course it was an analogy you were using to tent selection and perception! Hang around man - you'd always be welcome at my campfire.

OK, thanks for the comments. There is another DCF tent in the making but not an SS1. That would be really tricky to do at a significant enough weight saving from the 1. it's a complex shape. Took Henry's CAD programme a long time to scale down the 2 to the 1 in silnylon, it could self destroy if asked to do the Li version.

My wish would be another stab a 2p version of the Notch, not quite as big as the SS2. I had high hopes for the Saddle, but I guess it didn't earn its keep in the lineup.

Just a thought. Thank you and I fully agree with that except that there was nothing racist about my comment, it was simply that some did not understand what I had written. It was about how we see differences when we are familiar with the subject (it can be race but also tents...) but only see similarities when we don't. For example most cars look the same to me and I am having a real hard time differentiating some small birds we have here however I find myself now saying stuff like "that is not a Flame Robin , it's a Scarlet Robin !!!"
