ULA doesn't have them in stock in the Med torso size that I need--I picked one up used just now. If I like it after this summer's trips, I'll probably order a new one from ULA and resell this one (or gift it to one of my kids, if the L hip belt isn't too big for them.). I'm a bit of a penny-pincher, so this will work out well as a trial run. (I would have had to have paid a little extra to ULA for a custom order of a non-in-stock size.)
It's pretty-much a pre-req for being one of the cool kids here that you have to have a ULA Circuit, right? Mine will be green, like all pretty-much all the rest of them.

Welcome to the club! Well, I guess you're on trial/probation for a while, but welcome anyway.
Mine's red, though my Catalyst is green.

Years ago, my wife and I bought our first brand new car, a 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback. We liked the red and blue, but we decided on the blue because we thought, "everyone will buy the red one." It turned out just the opposite: the red color was pretty rare, but you couldn't drive one block in the decade of the 90s without seeing a blue 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback.
But it was a great car, so who cares.

That happened to me naming my kids. We avoided all the popular names and reached back to names our grandparents' generation knew. Turns out everyone else had the same idea. We got used to there being 2 or 3 other kids with ours' names in every class.

We got used to there being 2 or 3 other kids with ours' names in every class. Our daughter's name is Chloe, which was not a very common name in the early 90s when she was born. We had known for years that if we had a daughter that was what we would name her. There weren't very many Chloes her age, but in the generation after her, every third female child was named Chloe, it seemed. It was kindof irritating to her, because when you are 17, you really don't want to have a name that people associate with cherubic pre-schoolers.

I have a med. hip belt that I don't need, I was right in between , but the large works better for me, so I have both.

If I end up getting a new one and gifting this one, I might be making you an offer on that hipbelt. Either of my offspring that I might give it to would probably be better with the M hipbelt.

I picked up a catalyst a bout a month ago. ULA seem like great packs.

A couple of years later...how's that Circuit? Debating lightening up on my old but trusty Deuter 50+15 Act Zero (3 lb, 6z) which I load to 26-30 lbs for Sept trips in the Winds. Carried close to 35 lb in Big Bend Chisos when I had to haul a gallon of water for an shorter trip. Circuit might save almost a pound (measured weight is a few oz heavier than advertised).
Not sure the Circuit is up to 30 lbs comfortably and dependably. Have heard the carbon fiber rods can break. Also, 40L interior vs 50L for Deuter. Extension collars are ok, but without supportive structure.
May get flamed for too heavy gear, but alpine Wyoming in Sept can get cold and off trail solo adventures need solid gear. My lowest base for that trip (w/o opt. fishing gear (1 lb), Mini 2 (4z), Ursack (8z), bear spray (8z), water shoes (12 z)) is near 15 lbs. Big 3:
Backpack 3 lb, 3 z WM Versalite 10F 2 lb 2z (15 yrs old) -in 4z OR WP compression sack Six Moons Skyscape Trekker 2 lb (haven't seen better double-wall options. Has some issues with wet snow load)

oldbill I've had my Circuit for 11 years, and have yet to break any part of it. I have had the load up to #35 a couple of times with no noticeable pack shortcomings. None compared to my own in any case. I've hauled an extra gallon of water for a cache, above and beyond the gallon I had for my own consumption that day. The pack held up just fine. As for #30 comfortably? I'd have to say it held up very dependably. I've hauled it up the Colorado Divide a ways, into the Grand Canyon, on the Teton Crest trail, parts of the Muir trail, and assorted other hikes. The middle one is mine.

Extension collars are ok, but without supportive structure. I remember trying the Deuter when I bought my Circuit -- 12 years for me, and the right one in Zeke's photo above -- though I think the women's numbers are a little different (45+10?). My recollection is that the Deuter was definitely stiffer which felt uncomfortable to me but I think many people equate that structure with stability. It was also narrower/taller than the Circuit. I don't know if you can tell in the photo, but I tend to pack wide and flat, so that the weight is close to my body. And that's really the beauty of the Circuit; it's really flexible in terms of how it's packed. I also remember the Deuter as being more "fussy", i.e., more pockets, straps, etc. The Circuit can definitely pack well over 40L. I went from an Ariel 65 to the Circuit and didn't give up much volume; it's a comfortable 55L. The extension is real. Not sure why you'd need "supportive structure" for the very top of the pack where you're not likely to put the heaviest items though, admittedly, I think guys seem to prefer a higher weight center. If you're used to packing a bunch of stuff in the lid, it will take a little retraining.

MIne is the pack on the left. I went from an Ariel 60 (a really old one, before they added bells, whistles, and weight) to the Circuit, and noticed no reduction in what I could carry. I seldom start a trip with less than 30 lbs (lots of 5-7 day trips), and it carries fine. I pushed it up over 40 one trip and that wasn’t so good. My husband had his over 45 for a few miles to our first camp that trip, and while it carried it, it wasn’t fun.
I usually start a trip with just enough collar left to fold over and clip shut. Doesn’t seem to be any problem for stability.
