I have an older version of this Gossamer Gear daypack. No supports, just straps, a couple of water bottle pockets, and that's it. I don't even think it has a waistbelt, which you may or may not want. At least one, maybe two, sternum straps. I just use one. Mine has a flap lid, rather than a plain drawstring. I prefer the version I have, as it's less likely to let water in during a storm. I never fill it. Just gloves, hat, map, laminated bird and trees identifiers, a couple of granola bars, etc. www.gossamergear.com/collections/backpacks/products/minimalist-24-daypack?variant=30213284684

@reuben, I do like that GG. It's a little more than I want to use and spend for the purpose, but it looks like a very cool pack. I already have something just lightly heavier than that I use for a day pack.

I have the Sea to Summit one that hikerjer mentioned earlier but I found the fabric to be pretty fragile if you're clambering around any rocks. Noticed that my son's REI Flash 18 fared much better but it weighs 9-10 oz. So I ended up making a few DIY ones out of 1.9 oz silnylon (might even be 2.3 oz nylon, can't remember), which feels much burlier than the Sea to Summit one. Patterned after the Flash 18 for dimensions, cinch closure and straps that are a little padded and lay flat. 2.8 oz each. Doubles as a waterproof sleeping bag stuff sack. I ended up going with the Osprey because of the water bottle pocket and small top pocket for a shade over .5 ounces over the S2S. That bag you made looks pretty cool though! Much respect for people making their own gear.

Oware makes a UL pack bag, weighs under 3 oz, said to hold a 20 F synthetic sleeping bag, for example. $30 seems fair.

I had not been aware of this pack, if I needed one (I still have an old Z-Packs Zero that I use), this is probably what I would purchase. I don't own anything from Oware, but they are a very highly regarded cottage gear company. Welcome, Bill, to the forums. If you are so inclined, stop by the Trailhead Register and introduce yourself. Be prepared for some inane questions regarding your fashion and dietary choices.

I have the little Sea to Summit pack, and it works, but I find it pretty uncomfortable when something heavy like water goes in it. For the most part, I skip the day pack and use my ULA Circuit for dayhikes.

My GoLite 70 L Pinnacle is 26 oz. which is light enough for day hiking from camp, Id rather add a chair than another pack, don't use a stuff sack except maybe to waterproof, or to stuff for a pillow.
