I've been training to hike along the C&O canal towpath. I talked with my brother who said he would like to bike the towpath. That got my thinking and I clamped an axle and a couple of 13 inch wheels to the bottom of my pack frame. I attached an Army pack belt to the top and pulled it around the neighborhood for a while. I think I will be making my trip pulling my pack and not carrying it. There are a few towpath diversions including going over the mountain instead of through the Paw Paw tunnel. The wheels and axle add about 6 pounds and I can carry that on the diversions.
Anybody else out there pulling a cart instead of carrying a pack?

It’s seen on long roadwalks, like walking coast to coast. Not really for any sort of trail rougher than gravel though.
Been thinking of a mix of bikepacking (“seat + frame packs”) and bike touring (panniers - maybe a luggage rack), though it’d be bringing camp gear along with bicycle repair stuff. Could get places faster including restaurants and breweries.

Hiked 12 miles pulling my pack yesterday. Felt great. I had to switch to carrying to get up some stairs. No problem to switch back and forth.
