Please add any helpful info on any location anywhere in the world here.
The American Alpine Club's Grand Teton Climbers Ranch has posted a 2021 opening date of June 12th. This is a hostel and although I've seen it done in the past they do not rent cabins or cabin rooms for groups so please be diplomatic when you call or use the computer and don't press for accommodations they can't provide. Although I did it dozens of times over the years Park rules prohibit sleeping in your own vehicle and vehicles are limited in size as noted on the website. Please check the website for additional questions. The Covid recommendations they have appear to be dated and given the Ranch is scheduled to open I imagine they will be updated in the coming weeks if vaccination rates are good and infection rates begin to fall significantly.
The Ranch is *IN* Grand Teton National Park not far north of the Taggart Lake trailhead and south of the Lupine Meadows Trailhead and Jenny Lake is just a bit farther than Lupine Meadwos. It is just a five minute drive from Dornans and Park Headquarters in Moose. Dornans has a fixed "Chuckwagon" cookout, Pizza and Pasta restaurant in the awesome bar, and a nice little market with a small Deli. You will also find Moosely Mountaineering there where yo can get almost anything yo need for hiking, backpacking, etc. Moose is 12 miles north of Jackson and if you are thinking of going there to take advantage of one of he greatest dining destinations you will ever go please note that to put it kindly driving in this greatest mammalian habitat of the Temperate Zone is less than smart. IF you do decide to drive in the dark I think the posted nighttime speed limits are still to high. Dornans hosts an awesome Hootenanny every Monday night. You need to pay a week long park entry fee or have a pass for your group. Although in the park Moose is outside the park gate.
You can hike right out of the Ranch adding very little to a hike to Taggart, Bradley, Surprise, and Ampitheatre Lakes. They have bikes guests can "borrow" and the multi-use pathway to Jenny Lake is right at the highway less than a mile from the ranch. The pathway system also goes to JAckson and Teton Village so if you are a cyclist with your own ride that is something else to take advantage of. They do not have an Airport shuttle but are less than 10 miles from the only commercial airport in a National Park with flights from/to many locations all over the Untied States. In the past they have taken calls and posted notes on their outdoor billboard for rides to trailheads, Teton Village [where the spectacular Aerial Tram is that many use to start or end an abbreviated Teton Crest Trail Hike, etc. Please be adequately generous to anyone that helps you.
If you just want a shower the website says they still sell those separately. Colter Bay also has showers, believe you can get them separately from a campground stay.
This is a spectacular place with lots of great people. If you need to get out of the weather but don't want to take out a mortgage for a hotel room here in town [Jackson] you'll never do better here in The Hole. May the trail rise to meet everyone's feet, not our foreheads.
