homemade windscreen made from a oven drip tray and some custom clips that help hold my pot in place I'd very much like to see some pics of that.

I have a Pocket Rocket, which I use with a homemade windscreen made from a oven drip tray and some custom clips that help hold my pot in place. I'd very much like to see some pics of that. The potholder wires store in the Pocket Rocket case. The windscreen goes in my backpack up against my back so it doesn't get bent up. bpbasecamp.freeforums.net/thread/15842/fun-bending-wire

LB, isn’t that a bit too fully enclosed for a canister windscreen?

LB, isn’t that a bit too fully enclosed for a canister windscreen? I was thinking the same thing.

I wouldn't use a windscreen with my upright canister stoves either, but I believe quite a few people do. I have never actually heard of a canister stove exploding as a result of windscreen use. Has anyone ever heard of this actually happening? I do use a windscreen with my Kovea Spider.

Back when I used a PR, I would routinely use a windscreen much like LB's. Never had an issue of heating up the canister too much, but then I only ever boiled 24 ounces of water at a time. That was when I cooked for 2.

This wind screen works very well Thanks for mentioning this. I just added it to my Amazon Smile cart.

My 8R was $12.25, a great stove in it's day.

I've always dismissed the JetBoil systems because of their cost & weight. However a friend of my mine says that their new one is 7oz including a 800ml pot. So more research is needed. Almost pulled the trigger on the Olicamp pot that driftwoody bought but I'm waiting now. Oh the joy of researching gear!

LB, isn’t that a bit too fully enclosed for a canister windscreen? I've never had an issue with the cannister getting warm. In addition to the ring of holes punched around the bottom of the canister, I usually sit it on a rocky surface, or on slightly uneven ground, so there's usually a bit of a gap at the bottom. If one were concerned, you could punch one or two additional rows of holes at the base. There's about a 1/2" gap between the windscreen and the pot, which keeps the heat flowing up the side (intentionally).

This wind screen works very well, and is the setup I use. Works great with a wide flame burner, but you need a narrowish pot. Designed to work with the Optimus Weekend HE type. That looks pretty good! When you say narrowish pot, what diameter are you talking about?

Also have used a SnoPeak GigaPower successfully for many years. Remember too that the piezo ignition does not work at altitude for some reason.

It's a rabbit hole as you said, but better to spend the time fully exploring options rather than regret a decision because you missed the best choice for your personal needs. How much "stuff" do we have like that lying around unused? Aside from gabby whose archaeological record occasionally provides interest and entertainment in this forum, such clutter (organized or otherwise) is to be avoided.
