Lots to stomp on in the Shawnee. Smokey and I would go down twice a year--early spring and late fall--to explore. Sometimes we would just look for narrowed lines on the topo off a forest road, and see what we could find. We often camped at Red Bud by Bell Smith, which was often empty.

Teal Pond by Bell Smith used to be a quaint little campground, but they closed it some years ago. One of these days, perhaps late fall this year, I'll hike deeper into the Burden Falls Wilderness to see what it has to offer. I haven't been able to find much online about routes and features. Lusk Creek has a more established trail system, but it looks like off trail may have some rewards.

The NFS office in Harrisburg has a great trail map (mostly for horse packers but very detailed)..
