The Blaze is the first pack I've had that tightens the hip belt with pulls from both sides to the center; I really like that feature. Yes, that is a nice development; seems strange at first but works well.

I hope you have better luck with the GG Crown 2 than I did. Last spring I bought one hoping it would be an upgrade from my current pack. Lots of things I liked about it, such as the weight. belt pockets and the mesh pocket on the back. After it arrived, I loaded it up with gear, about 30 lb, and walked around the house. Within 5 minutes I was tugging at the should straps to relieve the pressure. Took some gear out, reducing the weight to 20 lb, same problem. Tried every adjustment of the shoulder straps and load lifters, but it was still uncomfortable.
Put all the gear into my Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian for comparison, and even though it is almost a pound heavier, it is much more comfortable. So the Crown went back to REI and I am still using the old Nimbus. IMO, the manufacturers are cutting down the pack weight by skimping on the padding in the shoulder straps and hip belts. I'll take the trade-off of extra weight for more comfortable padding.
Side note - I bought the Nimbus years ago at the recommendation of a forum member The Nature Boy. He is no longer here, got the boot for some transgression, but you all that have been here for a long time will remember him. Seemed like quite a character.

Right now the load lifters seem high enough, just over my shoulder, to help take pressure off. Next week will tell. I appreciate the honest info

forum member The Nature Boy. He is no longer here, got the boot for some transgression, That was many years ago, before I became a Mod, but I was a poster then. I do not recall him being booted as much as he never made the move when things were so chaotic around here. Several people stopped trying to find us, even after this rendition came along and we tried to encourage people to come back.

While true, it's more than just "padding." Most suspensions have been dumbed-down to a "fits all" type that cannot be fine tuned/tweaked. ULA is about the only UL maker I know that has a customizable suspension (stays that can be bent). I wish they had thermo-molding capability and slightly beefier overall suspensions (I'd like a real lumbar pad), but they work for me within their weight limits. Where packs are concerned it can be a fools errand to chase ounces too hard... really, one of the few areas I believe this to be true. Maybe the only area.

I do not recall him being booted as much as he never made the move when things were so chaotic around here. No, he got twisted after the forum went solo. Don't recall exactly what precipitated his demise here. He could be helpful on one post and absurd in the next. I don't miss him, but he was interesting.

Apparently he did know about shoes... but also posted a lot about stuff he did not but pretended to know.

Apparently he did know about shoes Yes he did. I remember someone accusing him of having a foot fetish, lol Where packs are concerned it can be a fools errand to chase ounces too hard I agree, but it would be nice to drop a pound from my 3.5 lb, without the brain, Nimbus, but retain the comfortable ride. It is a really comfortable pack. I'll probably get the pack out tomorrow for an overnight, this is hiking season in Missouri the forecast for the next couple days is dry, high temp in the low 50s, lows in the upper 20s.

The Nature Boy got banned well before the old forum shut down. He was banned back when the little warning lights were a thing.

I also seem to recalled he stalked some of the women on here (not me, so I guess that’s hearsay), which to me is a permanent boot kicking him out the door. Or was that the other horrible guy who shall remain nameless?

rebeccad The stalker was the other guy, in the blue scrub top. And I agree. Neither of them gets to return.

Yeah, the stalker had a blue puffy shirt. TNB had a blue sequined vest or jacket of some sort (well, OK, his avatar did). FamilySherpa - man, I had forgotten about the little lights.

Nooooo! One cannot simply say his name and not expect repercussions.
