I'm thinking about bringing a group to hike the T rans Catalina Trail next year. I get the impression that it's a lot of road walking, much like on the Channel Islands. Some of it even appears to be pavement. It also appears that there are several frontcountry distractions such as the Airport and Two Harbors. This isn't a deal breaker, but without having been there, I'm wondering if the experience is wilderness-y or not. For example, Parsons Landing looks like an amazing backcountry site, but the map shows that getting to/from the site is almost all on roads. Can anyone give me a better idea of what to expect? Also, the website above tells people to start at Avalon and end at Two Harbors. Is there any reason not to go the other direction? Thanks in advance!

This You Tube Video will tell you more in 30 minutes than you really need to know. Or, this shorter one, only 13 minutes. It appears the 2 ferries from the 2 ends of Catalina use different harbors in Ca, thus requiring some sort of shuttle to get back to the cars.

That video was actually really helpful. I couldn't tell if there was water and bear boxes at every site, but I guess I can figure that out later. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, I figured if nothing else you'd get a feel for how much road walking was involved.
